The following contains spoilers for Killing Eve Season 4, Episode 6, “Oh Goodie, I’m the Winner,” which aired Sunday, April 3 on BBC America.
Killing Eve‘s deeply flawed fourth season has been more coy with its murders, pivoting to become a more cerebral spy adventure while Eve tries to bring the Twelve down. She’s been rocked by the revelation that her old ally Carolyn was part of the group’s early formation, forcing Eve to rely on the sinister Hélène instead to accomplish her mission. Eve knows Hélène’s playing her own game with the terrorist group, but she has no choice, because she doesn’t have anyone else she can trust.
But with shady alliances being made, love no longer getting in the way and new adversaries being thrown into the mix, Eve and some of the show’s other characters have spun off in different directions during Season 4. As a result, one of the final episodes featured not only Hélène getting her comeuppance, but the death of another significant antagonist.
Hélène had played Villanelle and Eve against each other for the past two seasons, which caused Eve to strike back by kidnapping her child earlier in the season. Hélène responded to that by wounding Villanelle, leaving Eve petrified and realizing there would be consequences for betraying their new alliance. However, a recovered Villanelle was hiding out in Hélène’s hotel room, and overheard them speaking about their own kiss and romantic flirtations. That reveal angered her enough that she sliced the ankles of her former employer from under the bed, before attacking her and slitting her throat.
Killing Eve served up the glorious death Hélène demanded, but it wasn’t just about revenge for Hélène and the Twelve manipulating Villanelle and other women as assassins. It was more of a crime of passion, because Villanelle scolded Eve right after, walking out in a jealous fit over knowing Eve slept with the woman who made her a monster after Eve previously threw her in jail. But the bloodshed didn’t stop there.
An enraged Eve hated how Hélène cost her yet another loved one. The Twelve almost killed her ex-husband Niko, while Kenny had actually died, along with so many others. Eve decided to track down Carolyn, which led her to Lars’ cabin. Instead of getting answers, though, she broke down the door and pumped bullets into Lars. Carolyn was heartbroken over her former lover’s death, but Eve stormed off before any discussion could be had. Losing Villanelle wasn’t something she was willing to accept so everyone had to pay.
Season 4 has transitioned Killing Eve from a spy battle between world powers into something more intimate. It’s now a full-fledged game of revenge against the Twelve that’s unleashing characters’ more brutal sides. Unfortunately, Eve’s new desire to kill the terrorists, rather than apprehend them in the name of justice, could result in her or Villanelle — or possibly both of them — dying by the time the series wraps.
All four seasons of Killing Eve are available on BBC America and AMC+.
