WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Snowpiercer Season 3 finale, “The Original Sinners,” now available on TNT.
Season 3 of Snowpiercer had many twists and turns. Layton (Daveed Diggs) returned to take Big Alice; however, it came at a price because in time, his lie about New Eden was exposed. It led to Sean Bean’s Wilford making big moves once more, hoping he could marshal the troops on both trains and create one dystopian locomotive to rule with an iron first. It led to both men clashing yet again, carving out a bittersweet ending.
What Happened In Snowpiercer’s Latest Civil War?
Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) was the deciding factor, found in a vessel outside of France where she was kept alive in self-induced stasis. However, she realized Layton’s New Eden was a lie, outing him to the train and sparking a new civil war. Wilford tried to capitalize on the divide, but he got double-crossed by Mel and Layton just when he thought he could sway Mel back.
It turns out, Mel and Layton already worked out a new plan. They placed Wilford in Mel’s old vessel and shot him out of Snowpiercer, left with no choice but to induce sleep. This was a harsh death sentence, but Wilford accepted it was part of the dangerous game he played since the start.
Was New Eden Found In Snowpiercer?
The deal Layton brokered was that he’d take Snowpiercer, break off and go find New Eden in Africa. Mel wasn’t sure of the data, but Layton’s followers were. Roche and Carly, Mel’s daughter Alex, Ruth, Josie and many heroes endured the arduous trip with him, and while the tracks were old and breaking apart, luckily, they found the hotspot.
Everyone rejoiced, coming out at the lake to feel the sunlight soaking down, eager to send word to Mel. It was redemption for Layton because everyone’s faith in him paid off. The victory was even sweeter because Zarah had their daughter, Liana, there basking in the glow, while Layton got a chance to finally embark on a new romance with Josie.
Who Attacked Big Alice In Snowpiercer?
The final scene, however, which is set three months later, painted a harrowing picture. On an undisclosed track, as Mel and Javi drove Big Alice around with its citizens, bombs fell from the sky. It isn’t revealed if the bombs were meant to heat up the atmosphere ahead, or if it was a terrorist attack. The attack could have been carried out by the marauders a now-dead Asha once spoke of, or maybe Wilford found new allies.
Either way, Mel’s panicked look said it all. She’ll need Ben to somehow drive through, while Audrey will have to use her mental health movement to calm the passengers. As for Till, while she thought she and Audrey would get to start their own romance, she’ll have to make a call-to-arms once more and prep an army. With this unseen enemy set to arrive in Season 4, they may need Layton to send reinforcements, too.
