8 Superhero Movies Sam Raimi Could Direct | CBR

Where to begin with Sam Raimi. Raimi started out making low-budget campy horror comedies like Evil Dead, and by the year 2002, he was a household name thanks to Spider-Man, which helped kick off the modern age of superhero movies. Fans have a lot to thank Raimi for.

The director recently jumped back into the comic book game with Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, and fans are pretty happy about it. Fans are also happy that Raimi has publicly said he’d love to do other comic book properties, and it’s exciting to debate what comic book project he could tackle next.

8 Spider-Man 4 Would Be A Great Comeback

Let’s get this one out of the way early. Fans have long wanted to see the Raimi Spider-verse continue. Whilst he could direct Tom Holland’s next outing, most want to see him return with Tobey Maguire’s web-slinger. Spider-Man 3 disappointed many people- including Raimi himself, and a return to the story could help close things on a better note.

Raimi’s ideas for Spider-Man 4, including Bruce Campbell as Mysterio and John Malkovich as Vulture, have circulated around the internet for years, with Spider-fans excited about what they heard. Additionally, with Tobey’s return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans would love to see him reunite with Raimi for Spider-Man 4.

7 Batman Beyond’s Dark World Fits Raimi’s Style Well

Sam Raimi, Batman Beyond

Sam Raimi recently said that if he saw the Bat-signal, he’d come running. It’s safe to say that fans lost their collective mind over this. Ideas were thrown out left and right, with many fans pitching an old-school Burton-esque Batman film.

However, the more interesting idea had to do with Sam helming a Batman Beyond film. Batman Beyond deals a lot with futuristic noir and dark twisted supervillains, and Raimi is no stranger to such concepts. Fans are convinced this would be like an unbeatable match: Raimi would certainly bring the right amount of flair to Neo-Gotham.

6 Vertigo’s Heroes Deal A Lot With Creature Horror

Swamp Thing, Constantine, Sam Raimi

Vertigo characters like Swamp Thing and Constantine have always had a rough deal on the big screen. A mossy monstrous force of nature and a cynical chain-smoking supernatural detective seem like perfect characters for the silver screen, but somehow it has yet to work out the way fans would like.

Raimi would be great at capturing the twisted nature of these darker DC heroes; it’s no secret he has always been a fan of gothic horror and terrifying creatures. On top of that, he’s also excelled in seeing the humanity in monstrous characters. Perfect for a character like Swamp Thing.

5 The Shadow’s Pulp Noirish Tone Is Great For Raimi

Sam Raimi, Shadow

Old-school pulp hero The Shadow may be a little too retro for a modern movie, but if anyone could do it, Sam Raimi could. The Shadow is a mysterious vigilante who roams the night, wearing a long dark coat and a wide-brimmed hat. His comics influenced not only Batman but Raimi’s own creation, Darkman.

Darkman is a Raimi film from 1990 which is not based on any existing graphic novel, but it definitely pays homage to their style and has since become a comic itself. All that being considered, it is not hard to picture Sam Raimi announcing involvement in a Shadow project.

4 Deadman Would Really Get A Great Treatment From Sam

Deadman, Sam Raimi

Another supernatural DC character who rides the line between camp and horror, Deadman is the disembodied spirit of a murdered circus performer who can possess anyone he chooses. Despite occupying a dark supernatural world, his gymnast looking outfit also has a touch of campiness about it. But who could do campy horror?

Movies like Evil Dead and Drag Me To Hell prove beyond a shadow of a doubt if anyone can tackle a property that is both morbid and a tad silly, it’s Mr. Sam Raimi.

3 Hellboy May Need A New Director

Sam Raimi, Hellboy

Sam Raimi started in horror, as mentioned before. And on another note, Hellboy is sure to be rebooted soon. Fans still adore Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy films, however, the newest iteration of the character drew much criticism from critics and audiences alike and ultimately failed to start a franchise.

Give it a few years and Hellboy will return. If the studio took a step back and hired someone who could emphasize the horror, the silliness, and the emotion of Hellboy, it could be a hit.

2 Hulk Clicks With Raimi’s Tone

Hulk, Sam Raimi

A long shot but definitely worth considering. Whilst the Hulk hasn’t had a solo movie in a few years, Mark Ruffalo’s take on the character has been a fan favorite of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, if the MCU was to consider making a Hulk solo film, especially if it were more like The Immortal Hulk comics, Raimi should receive the call.

The Immortal Hulk depicts a more grotesque version of the big green monster. An invincible creature who is constantly struggling with his humanity and cannot die no matter what. A great interpretation, one which definitely would suit Sam Raimi well.

1 The Mask May Get A Reboot Soon

Sam Raimi, The Mask

With all the comic book reboots and remakes audiences have been getting recently, it’s shocking The Mask has been left behind. Originally a twisted violent Dark Horse comic, most people associate The Mask with the Jim Carrey vehicle.

However, with Deadpool’s global success, it’s hard to wonder why an R-rated Mask movie hasn’t been widely discussed. But who to direct? It could be argued that Raimi isn’t afraid to be goofy and violent at the same time. Match made in heaven.
