There are many amazing superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner, was one of the first to be introduced in the franchise, making his debut in Thor.

He was a main character in all of the Avengers films with the exception of Avengers: Endgame, appeared in Captain America: Civil War, and has most recently been the titular character of his own series on Disney+. While he may not be as popular as characters like Spider-Man and Thor, Hawkeye has proven to be a great hero in times such as these.

9 He Helped His Comrades Fight The Chitauri

When the Chitauri invaded New York in The Avengers, Hawkeye was one of the heroes to fight against them, with the others being Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, and Iron Man.

He shot many of them with his arrows as he fought from a tall building, informing his comrades of anything that he saw so they could work together to protect the city. The Chitauri eventually got up to him, but he was able to fight back and get to safety with the other Avengers.

8 He Shot An Explosive Arrow At Loki

The Chitauri were not the only enemies that Hawkeye attacked in The Avengers. At one point in the battle, Loki chased Black Widow, leading Hawkeye to shoot an arrow at him. Loki surprisingly caught it, only to be shocked when it blew up in his face.

The explosion knocked him into Stark Tower, where Hulk was able to beat him up. If Hawkeye hadn’t shot Loki, the Avengers may not have been able to defeat the Asgardian Frost Giant.

7 He Took Care Of Wanda When They Fought Ultron

While Wanda originally hated the Avengers in Avengers: Age of Ultron, she understood that in order to defeat Ultron, she would need to join forces with them. In the middle of the battle, Wanda was stressed and blamed herself for temporarily teaming up with Ultron earlier, so Clint helped her calm down.

He let her know that no matter what their past was, they were now comrades and that he considered her to be an Avenger if she fought Ultron with him, which she did. Clint was the first Avenger to put the past aside, turning Wanda into a friend rather than a foe by accepting her.

6 He Helped Captain America In His Fight For Freedom

In Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers began fighting each other to determine whether they would begin working for the United Nations or keep the freedom that they’ve had since they became superheroes. Captain America was the leader of those fighting for their freedom, and Hawkeye joined him in the fight, despite being considered a criminal as a result.

By fighting to keep their freedom, those that were on Hawkeye’s side wanted to make sure that they wouldn’t be held back from doing what they believed was the right thing.

5 He Returned To The Avengers

After Thanos made half of life disappear, Clint lost his family. This put him on a dark road as he became an assassin, known as Ronin. However, once he learned that his former comrades that were still around had come up with a plan to bring back those that vanished in Avengers: Endgame, Clint left his life of crime to help them in any way that he could.

Admitting to his mistakes and becoming a heroic person again shows that even in his darkest moments, Clint was still a good person and a hero.

4 He Tried To Sacrifice Himself To Get The Soul Stone

In Avengers: Endgame, Hawkeye and Black Widow teamed up to find the Soul Stone. Little did they know that a sacrifice needed to be made in order to obtain it. Not wanting his best friend to die, Clint was willing to let go of his dream of seeing his family again and sacrifice himself.

However, Natasha didn’t want him to die either, causing the two to fight for their death. Natasha was the one that ended up being sacrificed and Clint returned to the other Avengers with the Soul Stone, who were shocked and saddened by their friend’s death.

3 He Kept The Infinity Gauntlet Safe

After Hulk brought those that disappeared back in Avengers: Endgame, Thanos came to Earth with the intention of destroying the entire universe and making a new one that wouldn’t retaliate against his goal. In order to make sure that Thanos wouldn’t obtain the Infinity Gauntlet, Hawkeye kept it safe.

As he was attacked in the movie’s epic final battle, he gave it to Black Panther. The superheroes began passing it around to each other until Iron Man was able to use the Infinity Stones to make Thanos fade away, which he wouldn’t have been able to do without Hawkeye’s help.

2 He Protected Kate

In Hawkeye, Clint learned that Kate had obtained his Ronin suit and that the Tracksuit Mafia, former enemies of his, began to target her. Not wanting anyone to know that he was Ronin but also knowing that he couldn’t let anything bad happen to Kate, he protected her throughout the series and even taught her a lot about being a great archer.

The two of them even formed a partnership by the end of the show, with Kate becoming a second Hawkeye that was also a great hero.

1 He Got Home In Time To Celebrate Christmas With His Family

Not everyone has to have superpowers in order to be a hero, with Hawkeye being a great example of this. He also doesn’t need to always fight aliens and save the world in order to be one. Being a good parent and keeping promises is heroic in its own right.

As Hawkeye’s children were looking forward to celebrating Christmas with him in Hawkeye, they were disappointed that he couldn’t be home on the days leading up to it. However, at the end of the series, he made it home in time to be with his family, making them very happy.
