Elden Ring Mod Replaces an Early Enemy’s Steed With Thomas the Tank Engine

Players keep adding more and more creative mods for Elden Ring, but a recent trend somehow feels inevitable: adding Thomas the Tank engine to boss battles.

The first of these was posted by Twitter user Oshwire Toyko, showing a short clip of them facing down the Tree Sentinel, but rather than his average steed, the sentinel is sat astride Thomas the Tank Engine’s conductor’s cab. Thomas still rears up and dashes like a normal horse, whinnying all the while. In sharing the footage, Oshwire Tokyo commented, “Elden Ring mods have peaked.”

The second makes Thomas the boss rather than the steed he sits on. In a video posted to YouTube, player Garden of Eyes showed off their mod of Thomas the Tank Engine in place of a dragon. Just like the normal dragons in Elden Ring, Thomas flies in toward the player abruptly and, in this case, slides into battle on his front. Thomas flies during battle, spouts fire from his face, and perches on ruins and other structures while fighting the player. However, his less-than-lithe design gets stuck easily, leading to Thomas abandoning the battle early in this case.

However, the character joins the long list of creative additions by modders for the overwhelmingly popular Elden Ring. Such mods aren’t surprising, given the sheer volume in the month since Elden Ring was released. The train has become something of a meme in recent years, often put in the position of a villain due to many finding Thomas the Tank Engine rather terrifying.

These make for a fun and ridiculous change of pace from other mods for the game, which often tend towards either making the game easier, giving it basic functions lacking in the base game or somehow making Elden Ring more challenging for players despite being notoriously difficult. The Elden Ring modding community recently released “easy mode” mods that make it easier for gamers to play. Soon after the release of Elden Ring, players and modders added a pause function to the game, something many felt was much-needed. Some players are even inventing creative challenges outside the game, such as one modder who beat several Elden Ring bosses using a controller made with bananas.

For those interested in adding Thomas the Tank Engine to their Elden Ring experience, the Tree Sentinel Thomas mod can be found on NexusMods. Unfortunately, Garden of Eyes has yet to release their Thomas as a dragon mod to the public. Anyone who does not yet have Elden Ring can purchase it on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
