LEGO is celebrating the original Star Wars trilogy with three brand new diorama building sets.
Three new sets recreating iconic scenes from both 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope and 1980’s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back were unveiled in an announcement from The LEGO Group. The first of these, the 665 piece “LEGO Star Wars Death Star Trench Run Diorama,” will retail for $59.99, and let fans recreate Darth Vader’s unforgettable pursuit of Luke Skywalker during the moments leading up to the destruction of the first Death Star. The next set is the the 802 piece “LEGO Star Wars Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama,” which sees Han Solo, Chewbacca, Leia, and Luke Skywalker all present for the near-death sequence made famous in Star Wars: A New Hope. This larger LEGO set is slated to retail for $89.99.
Fans can also recreate Luke’s training with Master Yoda with the massive, 1,000 piece “LEGO Star Wars Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama” set, retailing for $79.99, which recreates several iconic moments from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, including Luke using the Force to lift his X-Wing from the depths of the putrid surrounding swamp.
These three sets continue LEGO’s longstanding partnership with the Star Wars brand and Lucasfilm, which began in 1999 and is currently set to expire in 2022, though LEGO’s partnership with Disney will see the Star Wars theme continue beyond that point. Previous Star Wars diorama sets have included recreations of scenes from other films in the franchise. LEGO has also released more recent diorama sets portraying fan-favorite moments from both The Mandalorian starring Pedro Pascal and The Book of Boba Fett starring Temuera Morrison.
Fans can get ready to become one with the Force all over again when pre-orders for the new sets begin on March 24 through the official online LEGO storefront. The “LEGO Star Wars Death Star Trench Run Diorama” and “LEGO Star Wars Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama” will be available from official LEGO stores and other retail outlets. The “LEGO Star Wars Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama” building set, apart from LEGO.com and LEGO stores, will be available exclusively at Walmart. All three sets go on sale on April 26.
