Resident Alien’s Scandals Have Been Exposed | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Resident Alien Season 2, Episode 8, “Alien Dinner Party,” which aired March 16 on Syfy.

Patience, the small town at the heart of Resident Alien, harbors big secrets. That was recently reinforced by Sheriff Mike Thompson admitting he inadvertently caused his partner’s death in his previous career. The incident drove him to the quiet Colorado locale, where he was hoping to live a life of peace with his dad. Mike’s tragic backstory was a reminder that almost everyone in Patience is hiding something — not wanting their past transgressions lead to judgment in the present.

Yet the latest Season 2 episode revealed the town’s biggest scandals and, based on what happened when those secrets came out, a lot more chaos is going to be added to everyone’s lives. “Alien Dinner Party” proved that Harry isn’t the only character with major problems. It also set up an exciting second half of the season.

Kate found out Ben and D'Arcy kissed in Resident Alien thanks to Mike

The first bit of drama occurred at Harry’s birthday party in the form of Mayor Ben, who’d been trying to turn the town into a tourist resort. Ben lied to D’Arcy about using her images for a website, when really they were for potential investors, which led to her calling him out. It also led to a frustrated Kate lashing out at Ben. She wanted out of Patience and hearing her husband wax on about this new project made her feel trapped. It didn’t help that she was emotional from finding out she was pregnant — and she broke the pregnancy news in the middle of the party.

Mike then went over and spilled the beans about how D’Arcy kissed Ben the night she got high. This caused Kate to also ream D’Arcy for her inability to land a man, for holding onto her high-school crush on Ben, and other indiscretions. Resident Alien resembled an episode of The Jerry Springer Show. Luckily, Ben and Kate calmed down and forgave each other. The issues didn’t end there, however, because when Harry went out into the woods to find the alien child that hatched from the egg, he was shot in the chest. The shooter was none other than his mysterious New York colleague, who warned that he should never have made Harry kill Dr. Sam Hodges during Season 1.

Asta shot an assassin in Resident Alien

Before the assassin could finish the job, Asta blasted him with a shotgun and killed him. She had been helping D’Arcy recover in the woods — only to hear the blast and race over. While she saved Harry’s life, she also created the worst problem of the whole episode. With the shooter dead and Harry alive (not even flinching from his gunshot wound), a shocked D’Arcy is certainly due the truth about what she just witnessed and who Harry actually is.

Worse yet, the preview for the next episode showed Sheriff Mike rushing out to investigate, meaning that Asta may have to inform him and Deputy Liv about Harry’s alien secret too. If extraterrestrials like Harry and his octopus buddy are revealed, that will further test Asta and Harry’s relationship. They’ve been on rocky ground for some time over how to keep his truth under wraps. With the military hovering around, more people knowing means more danger for Harry — and anyone around him as well. One Resident Alien episode has potentially blown the show wide open.

Created by Chris Sheridan, Resident Alien Season 2 airs Wednesdays at 9pm ET/PT on Syfy.
