Armin Arlert is one of the main characters in Attack on Titan. As the smartest member of the Survey Corps, he has come up with many genius strategies that helped his comrades achieve their goals while also discovering the identities of some of their greatest enemies.
Whether it be due to how smart he is, the sacrifices he made, or the battles he fought in, Armin has become one of the most beloved characters in the series. There are a lot of moments throughout both the anime and manga that show how great Armin is.
10 Armin Attacked Marley
After Eren went to Marley, he sent a letter to the Survey Corps telling him when to attack their enemies. While Armin always preferred settling his problems peacefully, he understood that he needed to go against his morals and attack the Marleyans for once. When he transformed into his Colossal Titan, he destroyed Marley’s fleet, giving the Survey Corps a huge advantage in the fight. Afterwards, he went on the airship that the Survey Corps used to get in and out of Marley, reuniting with his comrades as they fought with their ODM Gear.
9 Armin Punched Eren
If invading Marley wasn’t bad enough, Eren overthrew Paradis as well, making it hard for his friends to understand how he changed so much. Eren spoke to Mikasa and Armin with the intention to hurt them so they would despise him. He called Mikasa a slave and said that he always hated her, causing Armin to attack Eren. Eren then beat Armin up. However, that didn’t stop Armin from speaking freely, as he told Eren that he was the one who was the actual slave. Angered by this, Eren brought Mikasa and Armin to a cell with the rest of their friends.
8 Armin Saved Jean’s Life
Due to how long the Survey Corps fought against the titans, they didn’t expect other humans inside of Paradis to become their enemies. However, things changed when they began learning more about the royal family and Paradis’ walls, leading the Anti-Personnel Control Squad to fight them.
During a battle against the two military groups, an Anti-Personnel Control Squad member almost killed Jean, but Armin killed her instead, saving his friend. As this was the first time Armin took a life, including that of a titan, he felt terrible.
7 Armin Was Willing To Sacrifice Himself For Falco
After Falco inherited the Jaw Titan, Connie planned to feed him to his mother in order to turn her back into a human. She had transformed into a titan years prior but was never a threat as she was unable to move. Knowing that Connie was wrong to kill a child, Armin was willing to sacrifice himself instead. As he jumped into her mouth, Connie pushed his friend away. Armin helped Connie realize that it would be wrong to kill Falco in order to save his mother, causing the soldiers and warriors to join forces.
6 Armin Saved Eren And Mikasa From Being Killed By The Garrison
After Eren transformed into his Attack Titan to fight the normal and abnormal titans in Trost District, the soldiers around him were terrified. The Garrison saw him as a threat and tried to kill him as well as Armin and Mikasa. However, as Armin tried to convince them that Eren didn’t mean any harm, Pixis forced the soldiers to back down. Understanding that Eren could be a huge help for humanity to retake Wall Maria, Pixis and Armin worked on the plan that would result in Eren saving the citizens of Trost District.
5 Armin Found Out That Annie Was The Female Titan
While he was in the 104th Cadet Corps, two of Armin’s comrades were Marco and Annie. As Armin had been very close to Marco, he knew exactly what his equipment looked like. He noticed that Annie had taken Marco’s gear after he died and that someone had killed the titans that the military was studying.
After encountering the Female Titan, Armin also understood that whoever its inheritor was knew what Eren looked like and that the nickname his friends would call him was “suicidal blockhead.” Putting all of these pieces together, Armin realized that Annie was the inheritor of the Female Titan.
4 Armin Teamed Up With His Comrades To Defeat Eren
As Eren killed the majority of the human race after he started the Rumbling, Armin and his friends caught up to him. Armin and Eren fought each other one last time in order to determine the fate of the world. As they attacked each other, Mikasa found a way inside of the mouth of Eren’s titan. In it, she found his head and decapitated him. Once Eren died, all of his friends were able to remember an interaction they had with him that he took their memory of. Through this memory, Armin was able to understand everything that Eren tried to achieve and was given the closure he needed after playing an important role in defeating him to save the world.
3 Armin Found Out That Bertholdt And Reiner Were The Colossal And Armored Titans
Annie wasn’t the only Titan Shifter whom Armin learned the identity of. He also discovered that Reiner and Bertholdt were the Armored and Colossal Titans. He figured this out after hearing that Reiner and Bertholdt were supposedly from the same district as Annie. Upon learning this, Armin realized that Reiner had been helping Annie out when she attacked the Survey Corps, giving her information on where he thought Eren would be. Though the Survey Corps suspected Reiner and Bertholdt of being traitors, they pretended to not know anything until Reiner’s confession.
2 Armin Ended The Rumbling
When the soldiers and warriors first caught up to Eren during the Rumbling, Armin went inside of the coordinate, where he spoke with Zeke. The two of them talked about the meaning of life. After hearing that Armin felt that the small, enjoyable things that he cared about mattered more to him than any pain he ever felt, Zeke realized that life meant more than what he had thought, awakening the past Titan Shifters that were under Eren’s control. They were all able to stop the Rumbling together thanks to Armin.
1 Armin Sacrificed Himself To Defeat Bertholdt
When the soldiers and warriors battled against each other in Shiganshina District, Armin fought Bertholdt. He came up with a plan for Eren to defeat the Colossal Titan but was nearly killed in the process as Bertholdt burned him badly. Devastated by Armin’s sacrifice, Eren and Mikasa convinced Levi to use the titan serum that he had to save Armin’s life. Levi fed Bertholdt to him, giving Armin the power of the Colossal Titan. When Armin learned that Erwin could have been injected with the titan serum instead, he felt that his comrades made the wrong choice, but eventually became the commander of the Survey Corps himself.
