Miraculous: Tales Of Ladybug And Cat Noir is one of the most popular animated superhero series of the past decade. Created by Thomas Astruc, Disney Channel‘s Miraculous Ladybug follows the adventures of two Parisian teenagers with secret superhero identities. Miraculous Ladybug follows Marinette Dupain-Cheng, a student that leads a secret life as the superhero Ladybug. Her school crush, Adrian Agreste, is secretly her partner against supervillains who threaten Paris.
The main plot of Miraculous Ladybug comes from the threat of Hawk Moth, now going by the identity of Shadow Moth. Using his Miraculous, he creates supervillains out of unsuspecting people feeling negative emotions like disappointment, humiliation, anger, or jealousy. He wants to seize Ladybug and Cat Noir’s Miraculous to rewrite reality and resurrect his dead wife. While most of Miraculous Ladybug’s plots are solid, some storylines have seemingly gone nowhere or have been left unresolved.
5 The Optigami Proved To Be A Waste Of Time
The most recent season has introduced a new danger for the heroes. As the holder of the Peacock Miraculous, Shadow Moth can create Sentimonsters. His assistant, Nathalie Sancoeur, created one called Optigami to spy on the Miraculous holders. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to learn the identities of Ladybug and Cat Noir. Shadow Moth decides to use Optigami again, although it’s the first and only time that viewers see it.
Through a prolonged battle, Optigami remains a vigilant spy and even takes on the form of Ladybug’s ally, Carapace. Once Ladybug and Rena Rouge (Marinette’s best friend, Ayla) realize that the Carapace that helped them is a fraud, they expose the Sentimonster Optigami. Despite coming very close to learning Ladybug’s secret identity, Shadow Moth ends Optigami’s existence. It was very useful in learning the identities of some of Ladybug’s allies but was ultimately a waste of the viewer’s time by becoming another villain defeated in one episode.
4 Luka Knows The Secret Identities Of Ladybug And Cat Noir
Luka Couffaine is one of Marinette’s closest friends, and they almost ended up together. Ladybug occasionally gives Luka the powerful Snake Miraculous, turning him into Viperion. Ladybug first gave Luka the Snake Miraculous after Adrien Agreste failed over 25,000 times when using it to rewind time by 5 minutes. Luka turns out to be the perfect person to wield the Snake Miraculous and its somewhat limited time-travel ability.
Ladybug gives Luka the Snake Miraculous again when they face another akumatized villain named Wishmaker, who threatens to expose her and Cat Noir’s secret identities. As Viperion, Luka uses his “second chance” ability and inadvertently learns Ladybug and Cat Noir’s secret identities when they are struck by the villain’s power. After Wishmaker is defeated, Luka lies to Ladybug, telling her that he doesn’t know either of their identities. Ladybug has previously mentioned that if another Miraculous holder knew their identities, they could give Shadow Moth the knowledge he needs to get their Miraculouses and doom everyone. With some time left in the season, this could be explored further.
3 Future Ladybug And Cat Noir’s Relationship Hasn’t Been Defined
The problem every prolonged superhero story has when it introduces time travel is setting up a future that might need to be adhered to. In Timetagger, Ladybug makes use of Bunnyx’s ability to time-travel by sending her to her proper place in the future to stop Timetagger. To do so, she enlisted the aid of the future Ladybug and Cat Noir. This was an inspirational addition to the world of Miraculous.
Unfortunately, nothing has been done with this development. When Cat Noir asks about the future of his and Ladybug’s relationship, Bunnyx responds with hand gestures and says, “You two are rather…whoo!” Some have speculated that it implies that the pair become a couple.
2 Adrian And Marinette’s Other Relationships Ended Too Fast
After the season three finale, Adrien and Marinette started relationships with other people. Adrien was convinced that a romance with Ladybug was out of the question and began seeing his fencing partner, Kagami. Marinette began seeing Luka more romantically, although it never went further than a flirtatious friendship with one serious date.
Their respective relationships are doomed because of the two lives that Marinette and Adrien lead. They have to lie to the people they are with and disappear without answers. Season 4’s Truth has Luka akumatized into a villain that elicits the truth from his targets. He asks about Marinette’s secret, and everyone tells him that she’s in love with Adrien. In the following episode Lies, Kagami gets akumatized because she’s frustrated with Adrien’s lies and his constant disappearing. In two episodes, Ladybug and Cat Noir’s will-they-won’t-they relationship is reestablished.
1 The History Of The Miraculous Is Unexplored But Hinted At
When Sass goes back in time on his own, he causes chaos and various other periods bleed into modern-day Paris. If the viewer isn’t paying attention, fans might miss the scene where a woman in knight’s armor appears on the Eiffel Tower brandishing a sword. What’s odd is that her tunic resembles Ladybug’s costume. There are many hints in Miraculous Ladybug about the Miraculous’ long history. For example, viewers know that there have been two other guardians of the miraculous, Su Han and then Wang Fu.
Cat Noir’s kwami, Plagg, is said to have caused several historic events including the Leaning Tower of Pisa, volcanoes, the extinction of dinosaurs, and the sinking of Atlantis. Miraculous Ladybug implies the Miraculous has been used for thousands of years to give the kwami’s power to people. Well over a hundred years ago, Wang Fu wielded the Peacock Miraculous as a young man. The Guardians like Su Han, Wang Fu, and now Marinette have guarded the miraculous for many years. There is a rich history to be explored, perhaps in another special.
