WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Euphoria Season 2, Episode 7, “The Theater and Its Double,” now streaming on HBO Max.
In Season 2 of Euphoria, Angus Cloud’s Fez has been one of the scene-stealing characters, stepping up from just dealing drugs to a self-destructive Rue. The show’s diving a lot more into his personal life, showing humanity after he and Lexi developed a crush on each other, while still reminding fans how ruthless he and Ashtray could be, per Fez beating Nate up and Ash killing Mouse in a deal gone bad. It made the brothers even more dramatic, comedic and action-oriented than usual. However, the latest episode just ruined the big night Fez worked so hard for in the worst way possible, turning a crowning romantic moment into something that could harm his criminal endeavors or kill him.
Fez spent this episode dolling up, nervous as ever, to get to Lexi’s play. He usually wants nothing to do with the high-school he dropped out of, but he and Lexi have bonded so much, and he wants to be dapper, handsome and charming. She’s the only one who’s looked beneath his tough surface, even more than Rue, so Fez wants to be a sweetheart. More so, Lexi’s been mistreated by friends and her family, especially her selfish sister, Cassie, so she found a soulmate in Fez.
It’s why Fez was glad for Faye, a a drug user staying with the guys, to help with outfit. Sadly, things went from endearing to sinister when Faye’s boyfriend, Custer, came over to chill. He put the phone down, secretly recording Fez’s conversation because he’s looking for incriminating evidence. Custer’s now a criminal informant, hoping by selling out Fez and Ashtray, the cops will get off his back over Mouse going missing.
He even hinted to Faye to work Fez and get him to start talking about the murder, which raised a red flag for Ash. Now, all this is taking place before the play, which would explain why Fez wasn’t at the show. He had business to take care, and as for what that business could be, it’s a multitude of possibilities.
A suspicious Ash could have started cutting Custer up to get the truth, with Fez realizing they need to take Faye out too. Or it could be the plan worked and Custer got a confession, which would have brought the police in to raid. They already have Fez on their watch-list, so it’d be easy to impose and make an arrest, especially as he’s also part of Laurie’s narcotics ring.
With one episode left, fans are eager to see which scenario plays out, but what’s heartbreaking is that Fez and Lexi may not get their happy ending. Fans shipped them hard this season, but alas, Custer’s sting op suggests tragedy is going to be the destined result for two people who simply walk in two different, complicated worlds.
The Euphoria Season 2 finale will air Sunday, Feb. 27 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
