The Batman Has Fans Debating Whether It’s the Best DC Film Yet

As The Batman finally opens in theaters across the world, many fans are convinced that it’s the best DC Comics film adaptation yet.

After several significant delays and setbacks, Matt Reeves’ vision of the Caped Crusader is earning rave reviews from critics and fans alike. Audiences are praising the film’s compelling, slow-burn plot that dishes out healthy amounts of both intrigue and blockbuster action. Beyond the grim and gritty noir detective story, many are praising Robert Pattinson’s performance as both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Fans are flocking to social media to share their thoughts on the movie, with many insisting it to be their favorite superhero film of all time.

Pattinson isn’t the only actor in The Batman to receive praise for his role. Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman has received plenty of positive reviews, with many highlighting her intimate yet aloof portrayal of the master thief. On the opposite end of the story, Paul Dano’s transformative take on The Riddler is sending shivers down many spines as fans are calling him an imaginatively sinister take on the villain.

Beyond Pattinson’s performance, many fans are satisfied with the type of story Reeves tells in The Batman. The emphasis on an introspective, brutal mystery rather than world-ending stakes is seemingly resonating with audiences that are looking for a more grounded superhero adventure.

In discussing The Batman, CBR’s Brandon Zachary writes, “For a character so often defined by vengeance, The Batman feels like the only recent portrayal of the character to truly explore what that concept means — not just to the Dark Knight but to his world around him. The Batman is sure to engross new fans and might be a comic fan’s dream version of a Batman film.

While The Batman is seemingly proving to be a success for Warner Bros., the studio isn’t resting on its laurels yet: Two spin-off series inspired by the film have already been greenlit for HBO Max. One of the shows will focus on Oswald Cobblepot’s rise to power in the criminal underground of Gotham while the other is expected to focus on Arkham Asylum. Neither of these series has a confirmed release window.

The Batman is now showing in cinemas.
