South Park: 3 Characters Who Are Good Role Models (& 5 Who Aren’t)

South Park has a lot of entertaining characters. However, despite their ceaseless ability to make fans laugh, a lot of them are also terrible people. They are inappropriate, rude, and uncaring towards others, causing a lot of unnecessary problems.

While most of the South Park townsfolk would be horrible role models, there are still a few characters that others in the show, and even fans, can look up to now and again. Interestingly enough, it’s the children of South Park that are often shining examples of maturity, while the adults squabble and fight and generally make matters much, much worse.

8 Stan Is A Good Role Model Because He Always Tries To Help Others

South Park Stan

Stan Marsh is a great role model because he feels a lot of empathy towards others and almost always tries to do the right thing. He cares a lot about his friends and animals, not wanting anything bad to happen to them. In season 6, episode 4, “Fun with Veal,” he – along with Cartman, Kenny, and Kyle – protected baby cows after learning that they were used to make veal.

Stan is willing to go so far to help his loved ones that he’s willing to make sacrifices, putting their needs before his own. He usually takes responsibility for when he has wronged someone and has irrefutably proven himself to be the most mature member of his entire family.

7 Randy Is A Bad Role Model For A Myriad Of Reasons

Randy from South Park

Unlike his son, Randy is not a good role model at all. Despite being an adult, he is one of the most immature characters in the series. He has done a lot of inappropriate things, such as when he performed magic tricks with his genitalia, or when he used the Red Cross’ computer to watch lurid videos when the internet went out in “Over Logging.”

Randy is also very disrespectful to his family. He admitted to thinking about killing his wife and how he could get away with it in “Informative Murder Porn,” from season 17, episode 2. He is also a very toxic father, not taking responsibility for his own actions and trying to be better. He was even responsible for starting the pandemic, indirectly killing thousands of people.

6 Jimbo Is A Bad Role Model Who Has Treated Others Poorly

South Park Jimbo

Another member of Stan and Randy’s family is Jimbo, Sharon’s brother. Ever since he was introduced, he has proven himself to be one of the worst role models in the show. When he taught Stan and his friends how to hunt in “Volcano” – the 2nd episode in the entire series – he didn’t care that his nephew didn’t want to kill animals and made it very clear that he wanted him to be more like Kenny.

Jimbo also tried to get the children to do things that they shouldn’t, such as drinking alcohol. He has lied about plenty of things, whether he pretended that the animals he hunted were a threat to him or wanted to impress others, like he did in the episode, “The Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka.”

5 Kyle Is A Good Role Model Because He Is Often Kind To Others

Kyle reads a book.

Kyle is a great role model for similar reasons to Stan as they both have a lot in common, especially in the series’ first few seasons. He is one of the most mature characters in the series despite being a child, and usually sticks by what he believes to be right. Kyle is very kind to others and one of the nicest kids in his school.

He helps those that are in need, such as when he wanted to protect Blanket in “The Jeffersons,” the 6th episode in the 8th season. Kyle often tries to put himself in other people’s positions so he can figure out the most appropriate way to help them, such as when he tried to stand up for Butters in the season 16, episode 5, “Butterballs.”

4 Mr. Garrison Is A Bad Role Model, Although He Sometimes Teaches People Things

South Park Garrison

Though he may have taught kindergarten, third, and fourth grade, it’s probably for the best if nobody learned anything from Mr. Garrison. He has done incredibly inappropriate things in the classroom, making his students feel uncomfortable or neglecting his responsibilities to them.

He would teach the students things that they didn’t need to know about, like in the 25th season premiere episode, “Pajama Day.” He also just didn’t care how well their reports were, tending to other tasks when he should have been paying attention to the children. He has also discriminated against many different groups, including gay people, despite being gay himself. Mr. Garrison even became the president of the United States and did things that made the country worse, time and time again.

3 Barbrady Is A Bad Role Model That Allows People To Commit Crimes

South Park Barbrady

Officer Barbrady is probably the worst police officer that ever lived, even inadvertently helpings out criminals every once in a while without meaning to. In fact, he has committed a few crimes himself and even killed Kenny in the first episode of the show, “Cartman Gets an Anal Probe.”

Barbrady constantly needed help from others, including the children in town, such as when they taught him how to read in “Chickenlover.” If he can be relied on for anything, it’s making problems worse than they would have been if he stayed out of them.

2 Kenny Is A Great Role Model, Especially When Becoming Mysterion

Though Kenny has his immature moments, he knows that there is a time and a place for everything, and can always be a good role model when he needs to be. The best example of this is when he fights crime as Mysterion, the town’s noblest superhero. Whether it be saving those around him, like in “Coon vs. Coon & Friends,” the 13th episode of the 14th season, or protecting his little sister – who believed that he was her guardian angel – Kenny would do whatever it took to help others.

While he has had to overcome many obstacles in his life (or lives), such as facing extreme poverty or being treated horribly by others, especially Cartman, Kenny has always taken the high road and proved himself to be one of the best role models in the series.

1 Cartman Would Be A Terrible Role Model As He Always Hurts Those Around Him

Eric gives an angry speech in front of a mic

Unlike his three closest friends, Cartman is a horrible role model. He is incredibly immature and rude. Always needing things to go his way, he gets very upset if someone says or does something that he doesn’t like, despite always saying and doing things that hurt other people. From things as simple as making fun of his friends and treating his mother horribly to murdering Scott Tenorman’s parents and making him eat them in the 4th episode of the 5th season, “Scott Tenorman Must Die.” Cartman isn’t known for being a forgiving, or merciful individual.
