Fans of actor Charlie Cox from Netflix’s Daredevil series are testifying on social media about the way their theaters reacted when he appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home to reprise the iconic role.
Cox recently admitted listening at a theater playing No Way Home to see how the audience reacted to seeing his cameo, and being disappointed by the silence during that scene. “So I snuck into a movie theater near where I live and literally stood in the corridor,” he recalled. “…And, sadly, my experience was it was dead f**king quiet!” However, many fans had a much different experience at their showings.
I screamed THAT’S THE GODDAMNED DAREDEVIL and shook the kid next to me until he cried. I threw my popcorn at the screen in case Daredevil was hungry and set myself on fire https://t.co/otzyNVgpvr

Screenwriter and comic writer Brian Lynch tweeted in response to Cox’s quote, humorously exaggerating his reaction in the theater to emphasize the thrill he felt seeing blind lawyer Matt Murdock, the superhero Daredevil’s alter-ego, on the silver screen. Responses to the tweet were littered with agreement, with fellow fans recounting their theaters erupting in applause, or just expressing their own excitement.
Although Cox didn’t get the benefit of seeing firsthand how audiences cheered his return, there’s plentiful evidence that his inclusion in the film paid off. Daredevil was the first of Netflix’s lineup of Marvel TV series, collectively known as The Defenders, which were originally meant to tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe but were never acknowledged through crossovers in the theatrical movies. All of the shows were eventually cancelled, and there was doubt that Marvel Studios would choose to revive them in any form, let alone invite the original cast members to reprise their characters.
It’s so sad that Charlie Cox didn’t get to experience any audience excitement at his cameo. My theater was filled with gasps and clapping. ☺️ I hope he realizes just how appreciated his portrayal of #Daredevil is. I know I was happy to see him reprise his role. #NoWayHome pic.twitter.com/J6IyZYreKN

However, the devotion of the series’ fans was finally rewarded when Cox made his surprise appearance in No Way Home. The new development was compounded by Vincent D’Onofrio, who played the main villain Kingpin in Daredevil, showing up to reprise the role in the Disney+ series Hawkeye right after No Way Home hit theaters.
The future involvement of both Cox and D’Onofrio in the MCU is still being kept under wraps, but fans are hopeful to see more of them, as well as other cast members from The Defenders. All of the six shows in the collection — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher — will be leaving Netflix at the end of February, but at this time it has not been announced if they’ll be made available on Disney+ in the USA.
For any fans who want to give Charlie Cox and the rest of the cast one more good cheer, Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters.
