The PUBG-inspired battle royale SUPER PEOPLE launched in closed beta at the end of 2021 and was supposed to be accessible for approximately three weeks. However, due to an unprecedented surge of players and the developer Wonder People’s desire to gather more feedback, it extended the initial trial period without communicating the end date until recently. Although the semi-closed beta will wrap up on February 28, the developer is looking forward to announcing its plans for SUPER PEOPLE‘s next steps.
As one of the latest entries in the battle royale genre, SUPER PEOPLE retouches several gameplay aspects and introduces new mechanics alongside weapon improvements that contribute to the title’s overall execution. The game features a roster of 12 classes specializing in different firearms with class-exclusive perks meant to help players gain the upper hand on the battlefield. SUPER PEOPLE also allows gamers to engage in combat as randomized classes, but only one of them is versatile enough to be beginner friendly. At the moment, the best class for new players is the Driver class, although it is very likely to undergo a rebalance for the official launch.
When In Doubt, Perk Up For More Power
Like the remainder of the classes, Driver has three dedicated perk trees that house offensive, defensive and utility or functionality power-ups. Each tree is represented by a different color and upgradeable through the consumption of Super Capsules, which come in five colors. Aside from red, blue and green Capsules that boost the power of one of the perk trees, white Capsules randomly upgrade a single power-up, while gold Capsules bring any one of the available power-ups to its full potential.
The Red perk tree grants three offensive boosts. It increases Driver’s Submachine Gun and Assault Rifle damage up to 20% and 30%, respectively, while providing an aim-assist. New players will find the latter particularly useful, as SUPER PEOPLE introduces a recoil pattern that ramps up aiming difficulty. In addition to these two power-ups, mounted combat upgrades ensure that Driver’s accuracy and weapon damage remain boosted while driving a vehicle.
Defensive power-ups are addressed in the Green perk tree. First and foremost, it provides the Driver with up to a 10% damage and defense increase while inside a vehicle or taking cover behind one. The second boost makes them immune to vehicle collisions and explosions while granting a 50% damage reduction for certain firearms, explosives and airstrikes. Lastly, Bulletproof Glass ensures that both the Driver and their teammates aboard an automobile get additional health and defense boosts.
The Blue perk tree is indicative of utility or functionality power-ups. It grants the Driver the ability to summon any unattended vehicle in the vicinity, detonate one after dismounting and perform a Nitro Jump. Aside from increasing the Driver’s health by 20 points for five seconds after dismounting, Blue perk three also lets them detect nearby vehicles and hostiles that have used Capsules or crafted items, super jumped or teleported.
Guns, Cars & Lock ‘N’ Load Go A Long Way
With a slew of ridiculously overpowered passive boosts that give the Driver enough leverage to counter just about any bonus perk assigned to other classes, this class is an optimal starting point for those unfamiliar with the game or genre. Drivers are flexible enough to allow room for experimenting with mounted and ground combat on the go, and their performance does not necessarily hinge on previous experience.
While it may seem unrelated at first, it is also wise to favor the Driver class over another when looking for the fastest way to upgrade equipment. Unlike most battle royales, SUPER PEOPLE relies on a crafting system for armor and weapon upgrades rather than loot boxes. Crafting materials are scattered across the overworld and will exude a golden glow in real-time and on the mini map when players are in their vicinity. Since speed is of the essence, Drivers are likely to spot and reach these crafting materials first.
Take A Ride On The Wild Side To Crush Your Enemies
One of the unique features of SUPER PEOPLE is the Driver’s ability to summon a Monster Truck with the help of a Gold Smart Key. As their Ultimate skill, Monster Truck ensures that a Driver’s presence on the battlefield is not only seen but felt. The vehicle boasts superior durability and a cooldown of 120 seconds, which should, in theory, impose some restrictions on the Driver’s skillset. In practice, however, it does not.
The cooldown for the Monster Truck starts ticking as soon as the vehicle spawns. Due to its rugged build and overpowered status, Drivers have ample opportunity to consistently call upon new Monster Trucks and detonate them without experiencing any setbacks. Also boasting an inevitable increase in the Driver’s base damage and movement speed stats on the maximum level that conveniently contributes to the power of this Ultimate skill, there is no reason for new players to choose any other class on their first playthrough.
