Pokémon Legends: Arceus Confirms a Longstanding Shaymin Theory

Pokémon Legends: Arceus lets players explore a historical representation of Sinnoh through its Hisui region. The game incorporates numerous stories from the original Diamond and Pearl and their remakes through various side-quests, including a post-game event involving Arceus that never made it into the originals. One of these special quests allows players to catch the Mythical Pokémon Shaymin, and the research task players must complete is a fun confirmation of an old Sinnoh legend.

Shaymin is the Gratitude Pokémon, known for transforming dead and barren places into thriving lands. It debuted in Generation IV as an event Pokémon that could be found in the Flower Paradise north of Route 224, and it had a starring role in the film Giratina and the Sky Warrior. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a players are able to see the previously-teased founding of the Floaroma Meadow for themselves, confirming an in-universe theory about Shaymin’s involvement in the land’s transformation.

In the Sinnoh region, Floaroma is a flower paradise. However, a woman living next door to the Pick a Peck of Colors Flower Shop in Floaroma Town in Diamond and Pearl tells the player that it was once incapable of supporting plant life. The townspeople tried planting flowers on Floaroma when it was just a hill, but nothing grew. As the legend has it, one day someone gave thanks to nature, and the previously dead land burst into bloom.

While all signs of this phenomenon have pointed to Shaymin, Diamond andPearl never directly confirmed it. Pokémon Legends: Arceus finally does, going a step further by letting players experience the event for themselves during a bonus research task that offers an opportunity to catch Shaymin. This request comes from Medi, a Diamond Clan member, who wants players to find a special patch of Gracidea flowers in the Obsidian Fieldlands.

Players may expect to see an expanse of land where Gracidea flowers are in bloom, but they will instead find a barren place filled with dead flowers. In keeping with the legend, Medi expresses thanks to Shaymin, for the Pokémon helped her when she was a child who got lost in the Fieldlands. Suddenly, the surrounding area erupts into a huge field of vibrant flowers. This area is called the Floaro Gardens, and thus is presumably what becomes Floaroma Town and its accompanying meadow.

The quest to find Shaymin and the resulting blooming of the Floaro Gardens is a clear depiction the legend of Floaroma Town in action. This event confirms Shaymin’s involvement in Floaroma’s flourishing, something that was heavily implied, but not explicitly confirmed. Whether or not the Hisui of Pokémon Legends: Arceus is of a different dimension or the same as Diamond and Pearl, fans are able to see and experience a re-enactment of the Sinnoh legend that birthed Floaroma Town as it is seen in the Generation IV games.
