Iron Man is one of Marvel’s most important heroes. A founding member of the Avengers, he’s been on the frontlines of every major battle, adding his extraordinary intellect to the proceedings. While his various armors are quite potent, Tony Stark’s wide range of skills and knowledge have actually played a much bigger role in building his legend. He’s an expert problem solver, and that’s helped him immensely.
DC boasts some rather intelligent and crafty villains, many of whom Iron Man would be able to outsmart. That doesn’t mean he could outsmart all of them, as many are either smarter than him or could outthink him in other ways.
10 Hugo Strange’s Mastery Of Psychology Would Allow Him To Take Advantage Of Iron Man’s Neuroses
Hugo Strange is one of Batman’s oldest foes, and he has a rather novel way of doing things. As a skilled psychologist, he uses his knowledge of the mind to take advantage of his foe’s inner weaknesses. This is actually a really great way of dealing with Iron Man, as there are few heroes more messed up in the head than he is.
Iron Man is definitely the type of hero who would fall prey to Strange. There are so many ways for Strange to mess with Iron Man’s mind that the hero would be putty in the sinister psychologist’s hands. If it works against Batman, it would definitely work against Iron Man.
9 Brainiac Knows Things That Iron Man Can’t Even Imagine
Brainiac’s entire life is based on the pursuit of knowledge. His method is a little different from others, though. He likes to be the only one to know things, destroying entire solar systems and taking trophies in his pursuit of knowledge. Brainiac knows things that no one outside of his ship does and has seen the wonders of the universe up close and personal.
Iron Man is intelligent and adaptive, but Brainiac is smarter. He has a much wider base of knowledge and access to tech that trumps Iron Man’s. There’s no doubt he could enmesh Iron Man in a scheme that the Armored Avenger would find impossible to get through.
8 Mordru’s Mystical Knowledge Puts Him Outside Of Iron Man’s Area Of Expertise
Iron Man has proven to be bad at battling magic-using foes in the past. The world of magic isn’t one he really understands. He usually depends on other heroes like Doctor Strange to help him navigate it, coming in at the end for the win. That’s only part of what would allow Mordru to outsmart Iron Man; the other part is Mordru’s long life.
As a Lord of Chaos, Mordru has eons more experience than Iron Man and knowledge that the hero is proven to be unable to comprehend. This would make it child’s play for Mordru to outsmart the engineering marvel, especially once he realized how much magic boggles Stark’s mind.
7 Despero’s Mental Powers And Tactical Mastery Are More Than Enough To Take On Iron Man
Despero is one of the gravest threats the Justice League faces. The alien conqueror is a multi-faceted threat. His powerful telepathy, titanic strength, and tactical mastery have made him a match for a team of the greatest heroes in the DC Universe. That’s pretty impressive, considering the wide base of knowledge they bring to the table.
It’s for that reason that Despero would be able to outsmart Iron Man. Iron Man is very smart, but he’s pigeonholed in the technical arts. If Despero can outsmart the League, Iron Man would be even easier because he’s one man with one specialization.
6 Ares’ Mastery Of War Gives Him An Advantage Over Iron Man
Ares is one of Wonder Woman’s most overused foes, but there’s a good reason for that. The God of War is the perfect foil for the Amazonian because of his devotion to conflict, and it also makes him able to outsmart Iron Man. Ares is war; he has an innate understanding of tactics and the psychology of the battlefield. Iron Man isn’t exactly the best at those things, giving Ares a huge advantage.
Ares isn’t going to contend with Stark in a way that gives Iron Man a chance. Ares is old and crafty, and he knows what he’s good at. He’ll use his superior knowledge of tactics to his advantage, enmeshing Iron Man in situations he’s not built for, as it were.
5 Darkseid Is The God Of Evil
Darkseid is one of the greatest villains in the DC Universe. The God of Evil is a crafty opponent, having dealt with the machinations of his servants on Apokolips for ages. He also has access to Mother Box technology, which vastly outstrips anything Iron Man can bring to bear. Add these two factors together, and Darkseid could easily outsmart Iron Man.
Darkseid could use the Mother Box to completely take over Iron Man’s armor, and there’s pretty much nothing Iron Man could do about it. Even without a Mother Box, Darkseid has been tricking smarter beings than Iron Man for ages, so it wouldn’t be hard for him at all.
4 Ra’s al Ghul Brings Challenges Iron Man Has Never Faced Before
Iron Man is undoubtedly smarter than Ra’s al Ghul in a lot of ways, but al Ghul has an overall advantage over him. Ra’s al Ghul has been making plans that perplex the most intelligent heroes for years. While Iron Man is definitely a problem solver, he’s not used to the type of thinking that al Ghul would force him to do.
Ra’s al Ghul’s plans aren’t like the technical and engineering problems Iron Man is used to solving. The Demon’s Head would take Iron Man right out of his comfort zone and have him so turned around he’d lose the plot immediately.
3 Deathstroke’s Cunning Would Prove To Be Iron Man’s Undoing
Deathstroke has beaten the who’s who of DC heroes, and his tactical skills are a big part of that. Deathstroke’s mental enhancements, years of experience, and technology have helped him greatly in his battles. While he wouldn’t have the knowledge of Iron Man that he has of heroes he’s faced before, he still has advantages over Iron Man.
Deathstroke can make complex plans on the fly, which would serve him well against Iron Man. Deathstroke isn’t smarter than Iron Man, but he is craftier, which would make all the difference in a contest between the two.
2 Vandal Savage Has The Experience Edge
Vandal Savage is one of the most dangerous immortals on the planet. He has a hundred thousand years of experience and has forgotten more about subterfuge than every enemy Iron Man has fought knows. This is going to give him what he needs to outsmart the Armored Avenger.
Vandal Savage has lived a varied existence. He’s mastered multiple disciplines over the years, which will help him against Iron Man. Iron Man’s intelligence is great, but Vandal knows way more in general. That’s going to make a huge difference, one that will allow Savage to outsmart Iron Man.
1 Lex Luthor Is Iron Man’s Superior In Every Way
Lex Luthor has Iron Man beat in every category. His armor is way better, he hasn’t lost his company and fortune as much as Iron Man has, even though he’s one of the world’s greatest villains, and he’s definitely smarter. The only place that Iron Man might have Luthor beat is in arrogance and ego, but even that’s debatable. Luthor would see Iron Man as a competitor, and Luthor crushes the competition.
Luthor has Iron Man’s number in so many ways that it would be elementary for Luthor to outsmart him. In fact, he could just go the legitimate method and steal Stark’s holding out from under him completely legally. Luthor outclasses Iron Man in every way and would enjoy making a fool of him.
