What Would Deadpool’s Role Be in Doctor Strange 2? | CBR

Fans have been speculating that Deadpool will make his first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but actor Ryan Reynolds recently shot down the rumors. In an interview with Variety, Reynolds said, “I guess I’m not really supposed to say anything, but I’m really not in the movie.”

However, his denial was not convincing enough for fans. Not only that, but an observant fan spotted in the Multiverse of Madness poster what seems like Deadpool’s reflection in a shard of glass. And, with the evidence from Deadpool 2 combined with future plans for the X-Men and Deadpool 3, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to believe the Merc with the Mouth could get caught up in Doctor Strange’s Multiverse hijinks in this coming film.

Doctor Strange 2 Could Set Deadpool Up for His Own MCU Solo Film

Last year, Kevin Feige confirmed Wade Wilson’s third film would be part of the MCU, and what better way to set that up than with an appearance in Multiverse of Madness? Besides, it appears that Deadpool already universe-hopped in the end credits scene of Deadpool 2. In the scene, Reynold’s Deadpool appears in Hugh Jackman’s X-Men universe. Wolverine and an alternate version of Deadpool face off, ready to brawl, until Reynold’s Deadpool throws a knife into alternate Deadpool’s head, killing the guy. He steps into Wolverine’s line of sight, exclaiming, “Hey, it’s me! Don’t scratch — just cleaning up the timelines.”

Therefore, it’s definitely not far-fetched to say that Deadpool could be in Doctor Strange 2, what with this film heavily centered on the MCU Multiverse. Deadpool’s timeline-hopping could land him in Strange’s timeline. Maybe he is captured by the Illuminati, like Strange seems to be in Multiverse of Madness‘s trailer. This could either be a simple Deadpool cameo, or maybe he’ll play a larger role, helping Doctor Strange in his fight. Whatever the case, this could serve as a set-up for his first MCU solo film.

Deadpool Could Merge the X-Men With the MCU in Doctor Strange 2

The MCU’s Phase Four has already implemented a strong basis for merging Fox’s X-Men into its canon universe, and the final steps seem to be coming to fruition. With strong evidence that Charles Xavier/Professor X will appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wade Wilson would be an excellent additional bridge for future X-Men characters to join the MCU. The Deadpool franchise has no doubt been the most popular of Fox’s recent Marvel films, so the best move would be to add this favorite character first.

Not only this, but Deadpool 2‘s end credits scene again sets up the perfect X-Men merger. In the same encounter with Wolverine, the Merc tells Logan that one day, he’ll “hang up the claws,” but Wade will come back to him in the future, asking him to “get back in the saddle again.” Therefore, Deadpool could be the MCU’s connection to Wolverine and the rest of the X-Men. He could hop back over to Wolverine’s universe after escaping Doctor Strange’s and ask Logan to join him, just like he alludes to in Deadpool 2.

Though Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool has not been confirmed to be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the evidence for his appearance is strong, and he’d serve as an excellent bridge for Fox’s Marvel characters to join the MCU.
