No, Bane (still) isn’t slated to appear in HBO Max’s Peacemaker.
On Twitter, Peacemaker series creator James Gunn responded to a report claiming that the popular Batman villain known as Bane would appear as a primary antagonist in the DC Extended Universe show’s upcoming second season. “Don’t you know by now to make really sure of this stuff before posting? This is bullshit,” Gunn wrote. “No one knows what’s coming but me, [and] even I don’t fully know.” This, of course, is not the first time Gunn has had to debunk rumors of Bane’s involvement in Peacemaker.

Speculation regarding the Man Who Broke the Bat factoring into one of Gunn’s DCEU projects actually dates back to the writer-director’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad. In the lead-up to the film’s release, some believed it would take place on the fictional Caribbean island known as Santa Prisca, the birthplace of Bane. This was not the case, however, with The Suicide Squad instead taking place on Corto Maltese, a fictional island off the coast of South America.
Nevertheless, rumors later surfaced that Bane would appear in the first season of Gunn’s HBO Max series Peacemaker, which spins out of The Suicide Squad. Like with the new Season 2 rumors, Gunn shut these down in no uncertain terms. “Sorry to say your second exclusive scoop is incorrect. I don’t know what your first scoop was, but hopefully you’re batting 500, which isn’t bad.” Gunn wrote at the time, regarding the initial report. “Also, I love Bane, [and] I’m not opposed to [Peacemaker] getting his ass kicked, so who knows what the future could bring.”
When one user insinuated that Gunn was simply trying to keep Bane’s involvement under wraps, the director replied, “Stop. I’ve never lied to the fans about this stuff and I never will.” Gunn also responded to a second report claiming that Bane would appear for a single scene — and a single line — at the end of Peacemaker Season 1 (a report that, of course, proved untrue). “That would, by my definition, mean he was technically in the show,” Gunn wrote at the time. “He does not show up at the end or anywhere and has zero lines.”
Created by Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench and Graham Nolan, Bane first appeared in 1992’s Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1. The character has been adapted into live-action on three major occasions, being played by Robert “Jeep” Swenson in the 1997 film Batman & Robin, Tom Hardy in the 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises and Shane West in the fifth and final season of Fox’s Gotham in 2019.
All eight episodes of Peacemaker Season 1 are streaming now on HBO Max. The DCEU series has been renewed for Season 2.
