Dead by Daylight: Why Alien Should Be Added Next | CBR

Well-known and beloved for its inclusion of iconic characters such as Michael Myers and Freddie Kruger, Dead by Daylight has provided players with a bevy of iconic enemies to battle. As such, fans have been desperate to see Alien‘s Xenomorph added to the game’s roster of killers for quite some time. However, it’s not just the brutal alien that fans are hopeful to see.

Released in 1979, Alien is a science-fiction horror film set around a desperate fight for survival as an unlucky space crew happens upon a deadly extraterrestrial enemy. An immediate box-office hit, the groundbreaking debut of the film’s terrifying Xenomorph made it one of the most iconic monsters in the horror genre, which only makes its lack of appearance in Dead by Daylight more surprising. An Alien Chapter would quite literally be out of this world, as the colossal franchise has so much potential when it comes to map designs, perks and, most importantly, survivors.

An Alien Chapter Could Add A New Style Of Indoor Map

Indoor maps are possibly the most controversial type of map in Dead by Daylight; some of the player-base loves them, while the rest loathes them. The most common complaint is that indoor maps are confusing to traverse, making it hard for survivors to locate exit gates and generators. At the same time, killers have difficulty applying pressure to the gens. However, an indoor spaceship map could easily avoid these issues.

Well-lit signs could point Survivors in the direction of generators while limiting the map to one floor would give Killers an easier time applying pressure to them. As for the game’s other mechanics, there would be plenty of tables, ship terminals and cargo boxes for Survivors to try and loop Killers around. Players could also explore iconic rooms such as the mess hall where the infamous Chestburster scene occurs. The map could even feature shuttle bays rather than exit gates that lead to the familiar foggy void players have come to know and love.

Ripley Would Be The Obvious Choice For A Survivor

Ripley uses the power loader suit to beat the Queen

Sole survivor of the Nostromo, Ripley is considered by many to be one of the most significant female protagonists in cinematic history. While a few other notable characters could take Ripley’s place, such as her daughter, Amanda, no other character is quite as iconic. Furthermore, as the franchise appears to have tied ends with the character, she also has the highest chance of being licensed.

At the end of Alien 3, Ripley made the ultimate sacrifice and went out in a blaze of glory; however, it would be easy to imply that the Entity stepped in seconds before her demise. A common theme throughout DbD is the Entity claiming characters right as they’re on the cusp of death or despair, making Ripley’s “demise” a perfect opening for her introduction to Dead by Daylight. Confused by her new environment but determined to survive, Ripley would be sure to prove a worthy opponent for even DbD‘s strongest Killers. Survivors would enjoy new perks centered around a bold, altruistic style of play, taking inspiration from Ripley’s many impressive acts of courage.

The Xenomorph’s Unique Mechanic Could Be Truly Terrifying

Video Games Alien Isolation Corpse Xenomorph Shadow Scary

Many fans have already theorized what abilities the Xenomorph could have in Dead by Daylight. The creature is exceptionally efficient at silently skulking about its terrain in the films. Regardless of its power, the alien would need to fit into that category of killers that thrive off jump-scaring survivors. Some of the most popular ideas suggest the Xenomorph could possess wall-climbing capabilities and stealth mechanics that allow the creature to ambush oblivious survivors. In contrast, others desperately wish for the involvement of face-huggers. Either option sounds terrifying, which only increases players’ desire for Behaviour Interactive to add the Xenomorph into the game.

Alien‘s creature stable and lore practically write itself into Dead by Daylight, with little to no effort needed. Unfortunately, the copyright owner of the Alien franchise is 20th Century Studios, a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, so it’s understandably difficult for an independent company like Behaviour to get licensing rights. Still, Behaviour has certainly proved itself capable of such feats in the past, having managed to get licensing rights to Stranger Things from Netflix. In any case, it’s unlikely that fans will give up hope on Alien making its appearance in Dead by Daylight anytime soon.
