The Book of Boba Fett is over and fans are divided on the newest Star Wars series. While some fans love parts of the new show, others seem to think the whole series was a misstep for Disney. On the other hand, fans are itching to see The Mandalorian‘s third season.
Many believe that Din Djarin’s parts in The Book of Boba Fett were some of the best in the series. This has many people debating whether The Mandalorian is better than The Book of Boba Fett.
7 It Develops The Main Character
A big complaint from critics of The Book of Boba Fett is that the show hardly developed or focused on its main character, Boba Fett. While Boba’s history between when he got out of the Sarlacc pit and when he appeared in The Mandalorian’s Season 2 was filled in and developed, the current day story for Boba was left relatively untouched until the final episode.
This presented a problem for some fans who were looking to really see Boba grow into the role of crime boss. The Mandalorian has always made sure to focus on Din Djarin and Grogu’s growth first, and then let the supporting characters grow around their part in his story.
6 There is a Larger Focus On Storytelling
The Book of Boba Fett has some very compelling story aspects, such as the development of Tusken Raider culture and Boba’s life with them. As a whole though, The Mandalorian focuses more on telling an interesting and in-depth story which benefits the show in the long run.
This allows viewers to become more invested in the story and can help them connect to the characters and events. The Mandalorian tells the clear story of Din Djarin taking care of Grogu, with the story branching more into him finding out about his place in Mandalorian culture. This clear path makes the story easy to follow and allows for character and plot growth.
5 The Mandalorian Has Better Supporting Characters
Aside from Fennec Shand, who was more of a main character than a supporting one, The Book of Boba Fett lacked a strong supporting cast to Temuera Morrison’s great performance as Boba Fett. Black Krrsantan was visually interesting and had some fun action scenes, but could only add so much to the dialogue and plot.
The Mods gang had some fun visual aspects, but many fans felt like they weren’t that effective as enforcers for Boba. Din Djarin is surrounded by amazing supporting characters like Bo-Katan, Ahsoka Tano, Migs Mayfeld, and even Boba Fett himself. These characters are far more interesting and help drive the story forward.
4 It contains More Interesting Locations
Recently, Star Wars fans have become increasingly tired of seeing the old planet of Tatooine over and over again. While The Mandalorian seems to visit it once per season, The Book of Boba Fett spent almost the entire time on Tatooine. This does make sense because of the plot, but it doesn’t change the fact that the desert is only so interesting to look at.
The Mandalorian benefits from being able to visit a variety of planets. They have been to a water world, a few ice worlds, and even some forest worlds. The change of scenery helps to relieve fatigue over seeing the same biome over and over again.
3 It Expands The Canon More
Star Wars canon is extensive and always expanding. Fans love to track the canon and watch how it evolves with each new project. The Mandalorian adds a lot of new information to the canon. From the Children of the Watch to the rules of the darksaber, The Mandalorian has expanded the Star Wars canon significantly in just two seasons.
The Book of Boba Fett told a very contained story, adding small pieces about Tusken Raider culture and Cad Bane’s death to the canon. While it isn’t a bad thing to tell a contained story, fans typically enjoy seeing how a new series can expand the lore of the galaxy far far away.
2 There’s More Consistency Between Episodes
There were a lot of inconsistencies with The Book of Boba Fett and its pacing between episodes. These inconsistencies took away from parts of the show and made it difficult for fans to connect with it. The Mandalorian tends to be much more consistent. Although in the first season many of the episodes seemed to be one-off adventures, this formula still worked.
These one-off adventures helped to develop a relationship between Din and Grogu, as well as with the audience. In Season 1’s finale, a lot of the elements all came together to help make the season feel more cohesive. Season 2 built on this formula and told a more streamlined story with more interconnective tissue between episodes.
1 The Series Builds Plot For More Seasons
While The Book of Boba Fett left room for an additional season, it didn’t specifically build in plot points for future seasons. The threads that the show did leave behind could easily be picked up in a different series. The Mandalorian is constantly building towards an objective, and when it finishes one objective, it lays the groundwork for a new one.
For example, when Din Djarin reunited Grogu with the Jedi, it immediately laid the groundwork for a conflict between Bo-Katan and Din over the right to the darksaber. This helps to finish a story in a satisfying way while still building expectations for what is to come.
