Born and raised in LA, Robbie Reyes has never been an ordinary teenager, and his life became even stranger when fate brought him to an old, haunted muscle car. Robbie was introduced in All-New Ghost Rider (2014) #1 and, since then, his adventures have taken him all across the Marvel Universe.
From the backstreets of Hillrock Heights to the far reaches of space, this Ghost Rider has hit the superhero world in an all-new way. Despite sharing a name, Robbie is different from any other Ghost Rider in history, and many fans are not aware of just how unique he is.
10 Robbie’s Parents Left When He Was Young
For reasons unknown, Robbie’s parents left him and his brother Gabe alone when they were young. In order to survive, Robbie stepped up and chose to take care of his brother, no matter what. From that day on, Robbie took on jobs and did whatever he could to help make ends meet. While he took the role of caregiver well, this massive responsibility weighed on Robbie as he lost his childhood to the duties of adulthood. Because of this, Robbie resents his parents for not being there for him and his brother.
9 He’s A Great Mechanic
Since Robbie needed a job to support Gabe, he started to work at a local garage. Over the years, the young man learned the ropes and became an excellent mechanic. Robbie’s even started to teach Gabe the basics, giving them a chance to spend more time together when he’s at work.
Even with the tragedy of his childhood, Robbie managed to pull himself together and learned a tough trade in order to survive. This skill has served him well, especially when Ghost Rider’s car, the Hell Charger, needs a tune-up.
8 This Ghost Rider And His Car Are Possessed By The Ghost Of A Serial Killer
When Robbie needed a fast car for a street race, it seemed like his only option was to steal one from the garage. Unfortunately, that car contained drugs belonging to powerful people, and they didn’t appreciate the young man’s joyride. The pills were violently repossessed, and Robbie was left dead on the street. As fate would have it, drugs weren’t the only secret hidden with that muscle car, as the vengeful spirit of an old serial killer rested inside, waiting for a suitable host for his bloodlust. Once resurrected, Robbie takes on the form of a Ghost Rider and is compelled to seek vengeance on his murderers.
7 Robbie Is The Only Ghost Rider Who Hasn’t Made A Deal With The Devil
Since the dawn of time, Mephisto, Lord of Hell, has made deals with wayward and downtrodden souls to become his Ghost Riders. Those Riders’ lives have been filled with death and misery as they are compelled to do the bidding of the Spirit of Vengence. However, that’s where the All-New Ghost Rider differs. While Robbie Reyes hasn’t had an easy life, he never made a deal with the devil. Instead, he made a pact with a vengeful ghost, who was later revealed to be Robbie’s satanist uncle Eli.
6 Even When He’s Angry, Robbie Refuses To Kill
For Robbie, having the ghost of his evil uncle always fighting him for control was brutal. It didn’t help that any bit of anger or fear gave Eli more power over Robbie since he has a lot to be angry about.
Gang violence, crazy scientists, bullies picking on his brother, and the stresses of a teenage-adult life all piled up in Robbie’s mind, enough that some nights he wants to watch the whole town burnt to the ground. However, no matter how bad things get, Robbie Reyes refuses to become a murdering psychopath like his uncle. Whatever it takes, Ghost Rider will hold onto his humanity while keeping his brother safe.
5 Robbie Will Do Anything For His Little Brother
Gabe is everything to Robbie. His whole life revolves around taking care of Gabe, from his job to his superhero life. Whether he’s hitting the books or the streets, Robbie does it all to give Gabe a chance at a normal life. With Gabe’s disability, Robbie makes sure they have enough money for consoling and medication. Even when Ghost Rider joined the Avengers, his thoughts always drifted to his little brother and how saving the world means he’s protecting Gabe as well. While he’s not perfect, Robbie does his best to be the big brother Gabe needs in his life.
4 Ghost Rider Possessed The Body Of A Dead Celestial
The day Robbie joined the Avengers was a day unlike any other. Dead Celestials fell from the sky, giant bugs infested the earth, ancient secrets about humanity came to light, and She-Hulk kissed Thor! With all the craziness going on, Robbie felt more than a little overwhelmed. However, after a pep talk from Captain America, Ghost Rider jumps back into the fight to show the Avengers what he can do. With that in mind, Robbie did the most epic and most disgusting thing he’s ever done: hopped into the head of a dead Celestial and took it for a joyride.
3 The Hell Charger Can Drive Underwater And In Space
The Hell Charger redefines the definition of “all-terrain vehicles.” During his tenure with the Avengers, their missions make Robbie take a whole different kind of off-roading. From Atlantis to deep space, the Hell Charger gets Robbie to wherever he needs to go. No matter how far into depths he reaches, no amount of water can snuff out his engine’s Hellfire, and even he has no ground to drive on, Robbie will always find a way to ride. With this car’s versatility, Robbie could drive to Hell and back.
2 The Trunk Of His Car Is A Portal
Among the differences between Robbie Reyes and other Ghost Riders like Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch, the fact that Robbie’s ride has a trunk might seem trivial. However, like many of his car’s functions, there’s a lot more going on than the fans expect.
Using his trunk, Ghost Rider can transport anything he wants to wherever he wants. For example, in All-New Ghost Rider (2014) #5, when Robbie needed to get Gabe out of danger, he placed his brother in the trunk of the Hell Charger, and in an instant, Gabe appeared at the garage where Robbie works.
1 Robbie Has An Uncanny Connection To His Car
Robbie and the Hell Charger are linked in a strange way. Not only does it transform into Hell on wheels when Robbie becomes the Ghost Rider, but the car also lets him do things like teleport inside of it and phase through it like a ghost. For example, when Robbie is fighting, he can summon the Hell Charger to drive straight into him, ramming into Robbie’s opponent while he harmlessly phases into the driver’s seat. Additionally, if Ghost Rider is separated from the Hell Charger, he can instantly appear inside it whenever he wants.
