Kimi’s Biggest Unanswered Questions and Plot Holes | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Kimi, now available on HBO Max.

HBO Max’s Kimi was a dark trip for Angela (Zoë Kravitz) as she discovered her company, Amygdala, was at the heart of a nasty conspiracy. Her CEO, Brad, sexually assaulted a woman, Samantha, then had her killed, only for everything to be recorded on Samantha’s Kimi device.

Angela, an audio analyst, got wind of it all, but when she tried to out Brad, she became hunted by Brad’s gangsters. However, while it felt like a simple plot to get to the FBI to whistleblow, Kimi took some weird twists and turns that created a slew of unanswered questions and plot holes.

Why Did The Goons Forget Angela’s Kimi?

Brad used Rivas and his goons for the clean-up, but they messed up by not realizing Sam had a Kimi. However, they made the same mistake when they took Angela back to her apartment to get the data she collected. Given the nature of her job and that Amygdala could track the Kimis, it was obvious she’d have a recording device, so they should have deactivated it and then tortured her for the intel.

How Did Kevin Get To Angela’s So Quickly in Kimi?

Kevin was the neighbor in the loft opposite Angela’s complex who spied on her with binoculars all the time. When the goons drugged and tried to get her inside, Kevin suddenly showed up to inquire about what was going on. Unfortunately, he was stabbed and held hostage too. That said, it’s never revealed how he sped down so quickly or if he was waiting outside for the entire day.

Why Didn’t Angela Call The Cops?

Angela used the Kimi to activate her FaceTime so her mom could see the goons while also using it to turn the lights off and play loud music. Before she ran, though, she could have used it to call 911 and scream that she was under duress. She’d have time to hide in the crawlspace still, plus 911 would track the place down. It’s odd she didn’t do this, except in the end when she called 911 to send cops and medics over.

How Did Angela Shoot So Well in Kimi?

Angela rigged a nail gun and used it like a sniper, taking out the goons at close range and from long distances. It was a marksman-like display akin to Hawkeye or Peacemaker. However, she was a shut-in, and while she was good with tools, it’s never given context if she was a hunter or loved going to the range. This felt like a deus ex machina as she was so shy and awkward throughout, yet turned into a deadly vigilante in Kimi‘s finale.

What Happened To Angela’s Colleagues and Amygdala?

Angela exposed Brad, but it was never confirmed if Amygdala got shut down. It was stealing people’s data, too, so audiences were curious what happened to the people who tried to help her expose the truth, such as the Romanian tech worker, Darius. If Amygalda did continue and reform, it’d have been nice to know if Angela worked with them to effect true change. It’s also a mystery what happened to the corrupt boss, Natalie, who wanted it covered up, and the hacker Rivas use to track down Angela.

What Happened In The Evergreen Case?

Angela was determined to get justice for Sam in Kimi because years ago, she got caught up in a mysterious case at a company, Evergreen. It wasn’t clarified what exactly it was, but it’s implied it was sexual assault. Sadly, Angela ended up being vilified in the trial, not the guy. Interestingly, the film never revealed the full outcome or what happened to the man — only that Angela left and found this new job.
