The 10 Best Movies That Won Razzies | CBR

Entertainment’s major players are always gunning for awards. When it comes to film, golden statues are the required recognition for their hard work. However, there are some golden statues that nobody wants to win – the Golden Raspberries. Known as the Razzies, Golden Raspberries are annually handed out to Hollywood’s worst works.

From directors to actors to songwriters, no one is safe from the humiliation of winning a trophy that symbolizes a truly terrible achievement. Much like the Oscars, the Razzies don’t always get it right. There are some “winners” that are actually great films. Some movies are the very best of what the Razzies deemed the very worst.

10 Rambo: First Blood Part II Unfairly Won Worst Picture, Actor, Screenplay, And Song

Rambo Saves The POWs

Sylvester Stallone has been something of a stalwart when it comes to the Golden Raspberry Awards. While Stallone doesn’t have the most wins, he does hold the unenviable title of being the most nominated actor.

1986 was a particularly bad year at the Razzies for Stallone. He won Worst Actor for both Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rocky IV. Rambo: First Blood Part II also earned Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay. Though it’s a big departure from First Blood, Rambo is exactly the kind of hugely entertaining action flick that made the ’80s so enjoyable.

9 Freddy Got Fingered Is Now A Cult Classic Comedy

Tom Green freddy got fingered

Arguably one of the most misunderstood comedies ever made, Freddy Got Fingered is a chaotic collection of Tom Green’s most outrageous antics and is filled with hilarious nonsense. Freddy Got Fingered managed to win a whopping five Razzies including Worst Picture and Worst Actor.

Since being bashed by critics in 2003, Freddy Got Fingered has become a cult classic. Roger Ebert even looked back on his zero-star review of Freddy Got Fingered and praised it for being so memorable. Tom Green’s brand of comedy may not be for everyone, but he is certainly difficult to ignore.

8 Rocky IV Continued An Unfortunate Trend For Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone Rocky IV

While the Rocky sequels are no match for Stallone’s iconic original, they offer hard-hitting fight scenes and always evoke a wonderful sense of nostalgia with their soundtracks. Rocky IV is more of the bad-guy bashing fun that Stallone’s slugger sensation is famous for.

The Rocky franchise would eventually see Razzie redemption for Stallone. In 2014, after his Oscar nomination, Stallone received the well-deserved Razzie Redeemer Award for his incredible work in Creed.

7 Wyatt Earp Is No Tombstone, But It’s Still A Western Worthy Of Fans’ Time

Largely thanks to the phenomenal quality of the superior 1993 Western film Tombstone, Wyatt Earp is often looked at as a failure. This isn’t helped by the fact that Wyatt Earp won two Razzies. One Razzie was for Worst Remake or Sequel, and the other for Worst Actor, which went to Kevin Costner for his showing as the titular legendary outlaw.

He may not have been as convincing as Kurt Russell was as Earp in Tombstone, but Costner does an admirable job as the classic cowboy. There are better Westerns, but that doesn’t make Wyatt Earp a bad one.

6 Double Team Is A Big, Dumb ’90s Delight

jean-claude van damme and Dennis Rodman In Double Team

Nobody would expect a movie starring the NBA’s Dennis Rodman to feature Academy Award caliber acting. The same might be said for Dennis’ co-star Jean-Claude Van Damme, though Van Damme has since proven himself an undeniably talented thespian.

What Double Team does feature is ridiculous action, hilariously obvious product placement, fistfights with tigers, and Mickey Rourke. If anyone argues that the ’90s weren’t a ridiculous time in Hollywood, Double Team is the movie to settle the debate.

5 Twister Is A Classic Disaster Movie That Was Hugely Successful In Its Time

Expectations were high for Twister, with Jan De Bont (the director of Speed) and Michael Crichton (the writer of Jurassic Park) involved. Twister was a disaster film starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt, and it lived up to the hype and was a huge success. Twister also earned $495 million at the box office.

This result also left Twister open to win Worst Film Grossing Over $100 Million. While that award is certainly not the worst or best Razzie to win, it still leaves an undeserved stain on Twister’s reputation.

4 Con Air’s Razzie Win Was A Unique One At Least

There’s a lot to love in the ’90s high concept classic Con Air. From John Malkovich’s deliciously dastardly turn as Cyrus the Virus to Nicolas Cage’s muscles and mullet, Con Air is a beloved cinematic piece from an era of over-the-top action.

Con Air won the Golden Razzie for Worst Reckless Disregard for Human Life and Public Property. It’s admittedly not the most embarrassing of the unfortunate awards. Quite remarkably, Con Air’s song How Do I Live? was nominated for both the Razzie’s Worst Original Song and an Oscar for Best Original Song.

3 Batman V. Superman Sadly Did A Super Job At Scooping Up Razzies

Given the filmmaker’s divisive stature among movie lovers, it may not be surprising to learn that Zack Snyder has earned a couple of Razzies in his career. Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice received a remarkable eight Razzie nominations in 2017, and it took home four of the unwanted statues.

Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel and Worst Screenplay are the two main offenders. Batman V. Superman is far from a Christopher Nolan Bat-flick or a Marvel masterpiece, but it still has its fans and is a mostly-enjoyable slice of superhero cinema.

2 What’s Not To Love About Two DiCaprios In The Man In The Iron Mask

Leonardo DiCaprio The Man in the Iron Mask

In what may be shocking news to movie fans, even Leonardo DiCaprio is not immune to the Golden Raspberry Awards. It seems inconceivable today that the legendary actor could ever be considered for such an award. Yet back in 1998, DiCaprio won for Worst Screen Couple.

The couple was made up of DiCaprio and himself, as he played twins in The Man In The Iron Mask. Watching The Man In The Mask today means fans get Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, and a welcome double dose of DiCaprio.

1 Wild Wild West Is A Zany, Outrageous Western Wonder

Movies Wild Wild West Smith Kline Steampunk

With a total of five Razzie wins, Wild Wild West stands as one of the most awarded movies in the history of the ceremony. A self-aware and ridiculous sci-fi western, Wild Wild West is tons of fun when viewed through a nostalgic lens. Will Smith delivers all the charisma that made him a major Hollywood star.

Will Smith’s undeniably catchy title tune also won for Worst Song, which should be enough to convince any film fan that the Razzies are no more reliable than the often-criticized Academy Awards.
