Loki Star Says Renslayer’s Story Gets ‘Deeper’ and ‘Darker’ in Season 2

Returning to her role as Ravonna Renslayer in Season 2 of Disney+’s hit streaming series Loki from Marvel Studios, Gugu Mbatha-Raw has offered a hint of information on what direction the character will take.

In an interview with PopCulture.com, Mbatha-Raw was asked about her hopes for Renslayer in Loki‘s next season. “You know I can’t say anything about Loki. The Marvel police will come along and just take me away,” she teased at first, laughing. “But no, I’m excited that it’s happening, and I really love my character. I think she’s unexpected and complex. And so, I’m excited to go to some deeper, darker places with her as well.”

Mbatha-Raw only just confirmed that Ravonna Renslayer would be a part of Season 2 last week. Speaking with Good Morning America‘s Michael Strahan, she happily shared the news she would be reprising her role opposite Tom Hiddleston and Sophie DiMartino as Loki and Sylvie, respectively. “I know there is a Season 2, I know that I’m in it… and that’s about all I can say!” she shared cryptically.

Filming will begin soon for the second season of Loki, with a casting call listing the start as the summer of 2022 at the legendary Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom. The time- and reality-bending show is the first Marvel series on Disney+ to be picked up for a second season, with the multiverse it explored in the first season making an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and more to come in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Specific details on what Loki Season 2 will hold for Renslayer have yet to be revealed, but her Marvel Comics origins do tie her in with another major villain from the show: He Who Remains, aka Kang the Conqueror. She eventually becomes a long-time love interest for Kang in the pages of the comics. While He Who Remains was killed by Sylvie in the Season 1 finale of Loki, a variant of the character is set to appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Given that the Multiverse is such a big part of the storyline for the show, there are endless possibilities for the two characters to meet.

There is also a whole slate of new Marvel shows coming to Disney+ in 2022. Moon Knight starring Oscar Isaac is next up with a March 30 premiere date. Both the half-hour legal comedy She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel, which follows the adventures of Captain Marvel superfan Kamala Khan, are slated for a 2022 release. And there’s a version of Secret Invasion starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn based on the Marvel Comics crossover event of the same name due during 2022 as well.

Premiere dates are pending for all three of those upcoming shows, as well as for Season 2 of Loki.
