WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Snowpiercer Season 3, Episode 2, “The Last to Go,” now available on TNT.
In Season 3 of Snowpiercer, Layton (Daveed Diggs) has been desperate for solutions after breaking the titular train off from Wilford’s Big Alice. The villain has control of 1,023 cars, but Layton doesn’t mind, because by holding Wilford’s love, Audrey, hostage, he has time to find “New Eden” — the hotspot the late Melanie spoke of in her weather research. Unfortunately, due to recent events that seem to have pushed Layton over the edge, his biggest ally may be turning on him.
This is none other than Till, the detective who flipped on Wilford’s people to become Layton’s right-hand in the rebellion. She’s one of his most trusted assets on this breakaway train, along with Ben and Alex, but Till is slowly losing confidence in her leader.
It came after Layton experienced an ethereal vision, pointing him to a desert and a giant tree. It helped him get out of a cold bunker, making his way with the lone survivor, Asha, back to Snowpiercer. Since then, he’s embarked on a spiritual path, which some could call religious.
However, he’s obsessed in the library, unlocking details on this Dragon Tree and clues to another possible hotspot in Arabia. Till, in the meantime, begged him to keep the rants to himself, as he could lose credibility. She doesn’t believe Layton saw the tree, thinking he either repressed the memories or didn’t know what it was. His words, after all, sound far-fetched and supernatural, with Till not caring for this higher power and magical calling. This came to a head when Layton insisted they stay on a parallel track so they could attack Big Alice from the side when they eventually met up.
Till also felt this was the dangerous route because they didn’t know the track’s conditions, and she realized the parallel track led to the place Layton wanted to visit. Thus, she started to think he was compromising their safety to chase a paradise that doesn’t exist. To her, he’s taking the role of messiah a bit too far, and it may be due to the many deaths, as well as the pressure he’s experiencing with another war looming.
This could push Till to overthrow him, or she could ask Pike or Ruth to take over when they reunite. She knows Layton has Zarah and an unborn kid on the way, so Till might think she’s doing him a favor. Unfortunately, from her sinister stares, if she gets rid of him, Till could be throwing the war away, as well as a shot of at a hot haven.
See how Till fares with Layton’s obsession in Season 3 of Snowpiercer, with new episodes airing Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on TNT.
