Despite the frequent humor in Jujutsu Kaisen, the series is often surprisingly dark. Characters die on a whim, and many of their deaths are as horrific as they are tragic. On top of that, the powers held by both the Cursed Spirits and the Jujutsu Sorcerers are often formidable and dark.
Making a mistake can be a critical failure and one that can lead to mass death. While most failures are not so serious, many of them are. The Jujutsu Sorcerers must always watch their backs, and it is integral that the Cursed Spirits do not underestimate their opponents, lest they die.
9 Junpei Trusted Mahito Too Easily
Junpei Yoshino was a tragic character in Jujutsu Kaisen. He was bullied and felt alone in the world. That was until he met Yuji Itadori. The two hit it off, but in the end, Junpei was pitted against Yuji because Yuji was a jujutsu sorcerer, and Junpei was working with the cursed spirit, Mahito.
Junpei thought Mahito was his friend and cared about him, but Mahito gave him every hint that he did not. Still, Junpei believed his manipulative lies, and when it came down to choosing Mahito or Yuji, Mahito just killed Junpei.
8 Nanami Should Have Never Chased Mahito Alone
Kento Nanami found himself many admirers after his trade against 9 to 5s and his denunciation of putting one’s all into a job. It was something many Millenials and Gen-Zers could relate to on a deep-seated level. However, fans almost lost their new favorite character to the cursed spirit, Mahito, when Nanami chased Mahito on his own.
Nanami is a fan-favorite character, so watching him in such a dangerous situation was stressful. It was a bad decision to be sure, and it would not be the last poor decision Nanami made regarding Mahito.
7 Itadori Should Have Stayed Away From Sukuna’s Finger
Eating Ryomen Sukuna’s finger without any knowledge of what would happen was likely the worst decision made in the entire series. Not only did it start the groundwork in unleashing the evilest and most powerful being to ever exist, but it also forced Yuji to be at the epicenter of that struggle.
Not only was Yuji’s physical body in constant negotiation between the two souls, but also Yuji’s life would constantly be at risk, and not just from Sukuna. The jujutsu sorcerer community was also out to get Yuji for a while.
6 The Cursed Womb Arc Was A Trap
There was no way that Yuji, Kugisaki Nobara, and Megumi Fushiguro could know the dangers that lay ahead in the Cursed Womb, but when they got there, the Finger Bearer had already exacted its damage. The three were no match for what waited for them, and eventually, they were forced to split up, with Yuji sacrificing himself.
Of course, thanks to Sukuna, Yuji survived that particular encounter and beat the Finger Bearer, but that was not the end of the Arc, and it was also not the end of the trap.
5 Mai Had No Business Thinking She Could Confront Maki
Maki and Mai Zenin were sisters who had a huge divide between them, and this was mostly due to their differences as jujutsu sorcerers. Mai hated Maki for leaving the Zenin Clan and becoming a sorcerer despite not having cursed energy. Maki hated Mai for her perceived privilege and grandiose self-image.
The Zenin Clan is the true culprit for their abuse and incredible toxicity, but the damage was already done. During the Kyoto Goodwill Event, Mai confronted Maki (after trash-talking Maki for episodes). However, Mai was woefully unprepared for the butt-kicking she was about to receive.
4 Yuji’s Deal With Sukuna Was The Beginning Of The End
When Sukuna killed Yuji following the events of the Cursed Womb, Sukuna offered to bring Yuji back to life. The price was being able to take over Yuji’s body for a short amount of time at an undisclosed juncture. Yuji agreed to compromise if Sukuna beat him, which Sukuna did swiftly and without even blinking.
Sukuna then forged a Binding Vow with Yuji and revived him (despite having torn out his heart). This was something Yuji would later come to regret, though he had no memory of the vow.
3 Nobara Left Herself Open During Her Fight With Momo
Nobara was a powerful jujutsu sorcerer with a complicated cursed technique, but during the Kyoto Goodwill Event, she was led on a wild goose chase by Momo Nishimiya, a broom-riding sorcerer. Momo had laid traps for Nobara, which Nobara either saw through or barreled through anyway.
In the end, it looked like Nobara was going to defeat Momo, but she was cut short by Momo’s teammates, as she was not paying attention to her surroundings. Though Todo recommended she become a grade 1 sorcerer, she has failed just as many if not more times than she has succeeded.
2 Mahito Made A Grave Error When He Touched Sukuna’s Soul
Mahito was lucky to be gifted with such a strong yet disturbing power, but his big mistake was accidentally using it on Sukuna. Up until that point, Mahito had terrorized the jujutsu sorcerers. He had killed Junpei, almost killed Nanami twice, and had antagonized Yuji in multiple ways. Plus, his cursed technique was brutal.
However, Mahito made a grave error in enraging the King of Curses, himself, who slumbered deep within Yuji. Though Sukuna did not kill Mahito this time, he certainly made sure to put Mahito in his place.
1 Everything Jogo Does Is A Bad Idea
Jogo is a bit of a comic relief character for the cursed spirits. While Hanami, Mahito, and Geto (Kenjaku) are the brains and brawn of the operation, Jogo and Juzo were more of the bloodthirsty joke characters. This was primarily supported by Jogo’s constant losses (even losing his head at one point).
However, Jogo was still arrogant about his abilities, and he even thought his power rivaled Gojo’s and Sukuna’s. Having the audacity to think he could go head-to-head with Gojo was one of his biggest mistakes.
