WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Euphoria Season 2, Episode 4, “You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can,” now available on HBO.
From the premiere, Season 2 of Euphoria immediately jumped into a new triangle with Zendaya’s Rue getting involved with the drug-loving Elliot. They kept it platonic, but her girlfriend Jules could tell there was romantic tension there, making her envious.
In time, though, Jules would warm to Elliot, with the trio becoming besties and spending a lot of time together after school, to the point chemistry started to develop between them when Rue ducked out to secretly continue using. However, in the latest episode, after Rue’s love triangle took it a step further, it got totally destroyed due to one key confession, and in the aftermath, one particular figure has been left absolutely broken.
With Rue off doing her thing, Elliot and Jules hooked up as the flirting was too much. However, before they could have sex, Rue interrupted, leaving them guilty over their actions but still thrilled with the taboo nature of what they were doing.
Things started to get out of hand, however, with a game of truth-and-dare leading to Rue and Jules using Elliot to make each other jealous. It came to a head after they robbed a convenience store, ending with Rue drinking in the backseat. Jules chided Rue as she was in rehab and supposed to be sober, but Rue shockingly cussed her out and made it clear she wanted to be free and left alone, at least that night.
Jules and Elliot were stunned, but all Rue wanted to do was get home and start using the drugs she was supposed to be selling for the dangerous gangster, Laurie. Rue’s never lashed out at Jules like this, but when Jules reconciled everything, including Rue faking orgasms as she was too high, it became clear Rue didn’t really love her and that they weren’t soulmates.
Disillusioned, Jules would try to hook up with Elliot after a shower back at his place, but he stopped midway to confess he was the one enabling Rue all season long. He knew Rue had problems but still used with her, even helping her lie to Jules. It was a massive heartbreak as Jules was starting to love him too and think he was her solution, not Rue. The episode ended with Jules crying, knowing that Elliot and Rue have drugs and each other to rely on, while Jules has no one.
Her family life’s a mess, and Jules simply doesn’t trust the other girls at school, which could lead the transgender teen back into her delinquent ways from Season 1. Jules was trying hard to avoid this and thought she had found her tribe and, ultimately, a family with Elliot and Rue, only to be sent on a downward spiral again.
To keep up with Jules’ struggle, stream Euphoria Season 2, Episode 4 on HBO Max. New episodes of Euphoria premiere Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
