Another popular exorcist manga, Chainsaw Man, is expected to release an anime series later this year. The immense popularity experienced by Jujutsu Kaisen has inadvertently raised fans’ expectations for the upcoming Chainsaw Man anime. This exorcist manga follows Denji through a gruesome world.

Although Yuji’s parents aren’t mentioned in the anime, his grandfather is shown as his only living relative. Due to his grandfather’s hospitalization, Yuji refuses to join any after-school clubs. There is also a brief but significant appearance of Yuji’s father later in the manga.
Denji’s late father was a Yakuza who left him with nothing but trauma and debt. With no living relatives, Denji fends for himself by working as a private devil hunter to pay off his inherited debt to the Yakuza.

The cursed spirits featured in Jujutsu Kaisen are rooted in the negative emotions harbored by humans. Their strength comes from the fear, anger, hatred, and jealousy, among others, experienced by humans. They plague the human world and devour humans.
Similarly, the powers and strength of the devils in Chainsaw Man increase as more humans fear them and the consequences of their attacks. If all humans stop fearing a particular object, the devil based on that object loses its powers and becomes easier to kill.
7 Different: All Humans Can’t See Cursed Spirits While They Can See Devils
The cursed spirits are heinous monsters who are out to make human lives miserable and take over the world. However, irrespective of their strength, these cursed spirits can only be seen, and ultimately fought, by jujutsu sorcerers. They are invisible to the ordinary human eye.
However, devils in Chainsaw Man are visible to all creatures, including humans. They feed on fear to gain more strength. The more they are seen, the more vicious and stronger they get.
6 Similar: The Stakes Are Always High
The jujutsu sorcerers fight with their lives on the line as they tackle a variety of cursed spirits ranging from minor ghosts with unsolved pasts to full-scale curses whose only objective is death and destruction. The only barrier preventing the world from destruction is jujutsu sorcerers.
The Public Safety Devil Hunters fight against the most dangerous devils. They have the highest mortality rate among the private and public devil hunters. Dying some of the most brutal deaths, public devil hunters are always on their toes.
5 Different: Denji Is Friends With His Devil While Yuji Is Not
Yuji is an average high school student who suddenly finds himself deep in the world of cursed spirits and jujutsu sorcerers. He gains cursed energy by ingesting one of Sukuna’s fingers. Sukuna lives inside Yuji and shows himself at his own will. Sukuna doesn’t make Yuji’s life easy.
Denji’s pet devil, Pochita, merges with him, making him a devilman. Pochita and Denji are on excellent terms as they support each other and have similar motivations for staying afloat.
4 Similar: Megumi And Aki Both Use Kon
Megumi Fushiguro is a descendant of the Zenin clan and a jujutsu sorcerer at Tokyo Jujutsu High. As a shikigami user, he is a Grade 2 sorcerer. He summons his various shikigami from the shadows by using the word “kon”.
Aki Hayakawa is a Public Safety Devil Hunter who is a member of Makima’s special squad. He has three devil contracts, of which one is the “Fox Devil Contract” with the Fox Devil. Summoned using the word “kon”, the Fox Devil’s face appears and bites the target’s body swallowing them whole or cutting them up in pieces.
3 Different: Yuji’s Personality Changes When Sukuna Takes Over But Denji’s Doesn’t
When Sukuna decides to come out and interact with the people around him, he completely takes over Yuji’s mind and body. It is essentially Sukuna in Yuji’s body. While a few tattoos and mouths appear on Yuji’s face, the rest of his body remains the same.
However, when Denji pulls the chain on his chest, his head splits open and the chainsaw comes out. Although merged with Denji’s heart, Pochita runs the show from behind-the-scene and doesn’t have any particular influence on his personality.
2 Similar: Nobara And Aki Both Use Nails As Weapons
Nobara Kugisaki is a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High and a Grade 3 jujutsu sorcerer. She has high reserves of cursed energy which she can manipulate with finesse. Her “Straw Doll Technique” involves the use of a hammer, nails, and a straw doll. She can use various techniques by channeling her cursed energy through her tools.
Aki’s contract with the Curse Devil allows him to use a nail-like sword. When Aki says “fire,” The Curse Devil’s hand flicks the nail he planted on his target’s back, which delivers a fatal blow.
1 Different: Jujutsu Sorcerers Explain Their Abilities While Devil Hunters Don’t
Jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits elaborate on their techniques and powers mid-battle to enhance them. This is a very clever way of explaining the various aspects of a character’s power and ability while maintaining the flow of the plot.
Devil hunters on the other hand, try to keep their abilities and techniques close to their chest. Revealing their techniques, weapons, or the devils they have made contracts with could be a fatal mistake. However, some of the more powerful devil hunter’s methods are famous for their effectiveness against devils.
