Orphan Black Sequel Series Moves Forward With Fear the Walking Dead Writer

AMC’s Orphan Black spinoff series officially has a writer.

As reported by Variety, the new series will be written and executive produced by Anna Fishko, who has previously worked on Season 4 of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead as both a writer and supervising producer. She recently served as a writer and co-executive producer on the Netflix drama series, The Society.

Further details surrounding the plot of the sequel series are unknown, but it has been confirmed that the project will not be a reboot of the original BBC America series starring Tatiana Maslany. Instead, the yet-untitled project will tell an entirely new story, but will still be set in the same world as the original with a new cast of characters. The new series will be produced by Temple Street Productions, which also produced the original Orphan BlackIt was announced in 2019 that an Orphan Black spinoff series was in early development at AMC, though no producers or writers were attached at the time.


Created by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, Orphan Black is a science-fiction thriller series that first aired in 2013 on BBC America, where it ran for five seasons until the series finale in 2017. Starring Maslany, the series followed Sarah Manning, a young woman who discovers that she is one of several identical clones throughout North America and Europe. The series focused on seven different clones, all of them portrayed by Maslany who would go on to win an Emmy for her performance in the series.

Since the finale of Orphan Black, Maslany and fellow co-stars Jordan Gavaris and Evelyn Brochu recently returned to the franchise for Season 2 of Realm’s Orphan Black: The Next Chapter podcast, for which Maslany serves as the narrator. The first season of Orphan Black: The Next Chapter took place eight years after the show’s fifth and final season, continuing the story of the clones and the sisterhood they formed in the television series.


While Maslany might not return for the AMC’s new spinoff series, she is set to star as Jen Walters in the upcoming Marvel Studios and Disney+ series, She-Hulk, in which she will portray the title hero. She-Hulk also stars Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Ginger Gonzaga and Renée Elise Goldsberry and is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2022.
