Netflix announced the official cast for its ’90s-themed That ’70s Show spinoff.
It was previously announced that Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp would be returning as Red and Kitty for That ’90s Show, while also serving as executive producers on the new series. As for the newcomers, The Hollywood Reporter shared the new ensemble cast, as well as their character descriptions.
That ’90s Show will star Callie Haverda as Leia Forman, the daughter of Eric and Donna, who will be spending the summer in Point Place with her grandparents, Kitty and Red. Described as “Smart like her mom, snarky like her dad,” Leia is ready for a new adventure and finds it “in the most unlikely of places: next door to her grandparents’ house in Point Place.”
Other actors joining the new generation of teenagers in Point Place, Wisconsin include Ashley Aufderheide as Gwen, a ’90s Riot Grrl, described as “equal parts loyalty, rebellion and heart” and considered the “unofficial leader” of the teenagers; Mace Coronel as the “charming and flirty” Jay, an amateur filmmaker who works at the local video store; Maxwell Acee Donovan as Nate, Jay’s best friend and Gwen’s older brother, who “takes life as it comes, usually with a big open smile”; Reyn Doi as Ozzie, who is “insightful, sarcastic” and gay, described as “impatient with the world” for not accepting him the way his friends do; and, finally, Sam Morelos will portray Nate’s girlfriend, the “focused, smart, and driven” Nikki, who is a bit more rebellious than she lets on.
It was announced that Netflix’s ’90s-themed spinoff series received a series order in October 2021 from the original creators of Fox’s That ’70s Show, Bonnie and Terry Turner. At the time, producers were hopeful that other members from the original cast will make guest appearances in this new series, though more returning cast members have not yet been announced. Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of That ’90s Show with Gregg Mettler serving as showrunner.
The original show’s cast included Topher Grace as Eric Forman, Mila Kunis as Jackie Burkhart, Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso, Laura Prepon as Donna Pinciotti, Wilmer Valderrama as Fez, and Danny Masterson as Hyde.
That ’90s Show will take place in 1995 and will follow Leia Forman, the daughter of Eric and Donna, over the course of a summer as she visits her grandparents in Point Place, Wisconsin. The original series aired in 1998 and ran for eight seasons on Fox, chronicling the misadventures of a group of teenagers in the ’70s. All eight seasons of the series were available to stream on Netflix, but they exited the streaming platform in 2020.
That ’90s Show does not yet have a release date.
