The Simpsons: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Bart’s Future | CBR

Bart Simpson of The Simpsons has been 10 years old since the 1990s. He might be the same age decades from now; however, the show has occasionally allowed glimpses into his possible future, showing what his adolescence, adulthood, and even the end of his life might look like through visions, dreams, flash-forwards, and other similar plot devices.

It’s important to remember that the Simpsons live in a “floating timeline” of sorts. This means that stories said to take place in the future sometimes contradict each other. Fans often debate what’s canon and what isn’t because of this, effectively allowing them to pick and choose the parts they hope will happen and which parts they don’t.

10 He Might Be Doomed By Genetics (But There’s A Margin Of Error In His Favor)

In “Lisa the Simpson,” it’s revealed that an anomaly causes the Simpsons men to become less and less intelligent as they get older, sparing Lisa and Maggie but dooming Bart to a life of failure. “Bart to the Future” even shows a possible future with Bart as a failed musician and a DeVry Institute dropout, although he eventually proves to be a useful ally to Lisa (who’s become President) with his slacking skills.

Over the years, fans have noted a few holes in this story. Homer’s paternal half-brother Herbert is relatively intelligent and his half-sister Abbey is basically a female version of him. It’s also shown that Homer would’ve been quite intelligent had it not been for a crayon stuck in his brain. Because of this, there’s debate whether the “Simpsons gene” is infallible or even really exists. In fact, Bart himself might just go on to debunk this theory after all.

9 He Will End Up Chief Justice Of The Supreme Court

In “Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie,” it’s shown that Bart will eventually become Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, highlighting yet another hole in the “Simpsons gene” concept.

While the show has toyed with other careers in Bart’s future, fans tend to treat this as the most canon, since it was from a flash-forward and not a dream or vision. A popular compromise is that Bart might go through a plethora of jobs beforehand, but he will ultimately end up on the Supreme Court. This is actually supported by canon. In “Lisa’s Wedding,” despite working in construction and as a promoter, he still plans to go to law school.

8 He Will Become A Rich Pot CEO (& Might Have Had A Hand In Legalizing It)

In “Mother and Child Reunion,” another possible career path for Bart involves him entering the world of legalized cannabis. A pot CEO, Bart is shown to own his own brand, “High Carumba,” and serves as its spokesperson, complete with the catchphrase, “Smoke My Shorts.” He’s shown to be financially successful in this endeavor, going on to own three NBA teams.

While “Mother and Child Reunion” can be seen as an alternate retelling of “Bart To The Future” (except with a more charitable future for Bart), if both episodes are canon, it’s implied that Bart might have had a hand in legalizing cannabis as a favor from Lisa, who went on to become the President of the United States in both stories.

7 He’ll Get Involved With BMX Competitions As A Teen

In “Barthood,” it’s shown that Bart takes an interest in bikes after getting one as a present from his grandfather, Abe. This ultimately leads to him participating in BMX competitions.

Unfortunately, one of his competitions ends with him being humiliated after getting distracted and hurt, blacking out, and being revived by Lisa. While he might give up on competitions, he’s later shown operating a bike shop.

6 He’ll Toy With An Art Career As A Young Adult

As a kid, Lisa appears to be more artistic than Bart; however, Bart is the one who’s shown to dabble with a career in art. In “Barthood,” Bart works as a caricature artist and even takes an interest in art history with him owning a Frida Kahlo print. Lisa even admits Bart is the better artist.

Granted, Bart has been shown to have an interest in art as a child, with his “Angry Dad” comics and “El Barto” graffiti. This is also an in-joke as Bart is based on series creator, Matt Groening.

5 He’ll Have An Off-And-On Again Romance With A Woman Named Jenda

Unlike Lisa, who seems predestined to marry Milhouse, Bart’s first mature relationship appears to be with a girl named Jenda, who he hasn’t yet met in canon. The two will meet and date by the time they are in high school, but will eventually break up around their graduation. Later stories show that Bart and Jenda will eventually reconcile and even marry, but their relationship will continue to be off-and-on because Jenda thinks Bart is too immature.

Professor Frink implies Jenda isn’t Bart’s “true love” and claims he’ll meet the girl who truly loves him before dying. Judging by Jenda’s distaste for Bart’s lack of ambition, it’s likely she’s not in his life by the time he makes a fortune in pot or joins the Supreme Court.

4 He Will Father Two Sons: Skippy & Jiff (Or Kirk & Picard)

Bart and Jenda will go on to have two sons named Skippy and Jiff, who are named in honor of various peanut butter brands. They’re also given alternate names, Kirk and Picard. The two resemble their father, but favor prim and preppy clothes, suggesting they take after their aunt Lisa in personality.

Judging by their telepathic abilities, it’s assumed the boys might have more mental prowess than Bart did at their age. They do show some similarities with Bart, however, such as calling Homer by name, despite getting along better with him than their father did. They also appear to like skateboarding according to The Simpsons: Tapped Out.

3 Bart Will Be Married More Than Once

In “Lisa’s Wedding,” upon seeing Lisa in her wedding dress, Bart comments he’s inspired to try marriage for the third time.

Assuming Jenda exists in this timeline, she would likely be his first wife. Since Bart didn’t mention multiple “wives,” it’s also possible he simply remarried his ex-wife, which would fit his and Jenda’s off-and-on-again relationship.

2 He Will Die Around 80 & Will Be The First Sibling To Go

In “Flanders’ Ladder,” Bart has a vision of how everyone he knows will die. Apparently, after accidentally killing Skinner in a prank gone wrong, his corpse will lose control of his wheelchair and fatally run over Bart.

The vision also reaffirmed that he would rise to become a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by the time of his death, even wearing his robes up until the end. He will be survived by his sisters, Lisa, who will die at 98, and Maggie, who will apparently ascend to the heavens as some sort of immortal celestial being. The vision also claimed he would die at 80, while Professor Frink implied he would live to around 83.

1 It Might Get A Little Deeper, But Bart Will Never Lose His Boyish Voice

Bart’s “future” appearance might change over the years. Sometimes, he’s shown to have inherited Homer’s weight issues, but other times he’s shown to be thin. Sometimes, he’ll have Homer’s mug, but he’ll go with the clean-shaven look. He might even get a ponytail. However, one thing that will more-or-less never chance is his voice.

No matter how old Bart gets, he’s consistently voiced by Nancy Cartwright. At most, it will be electronically lowered, like in “Lisa’s Wedding.” He even kept his voice at the time of his death.
