Star Trek: Prodigy Recap & Spoilers: Season 1, Episode 10, ‘A Moral Star, Part 2’

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1, Episode 10, “A Moral Star, Part 2,” streaming now on Paramount+.

As Star Trek: Prodigy wraps the first half of its inaugural season, the Star Trek animated series was poised to give its overarching antagonist the Diviner his final victory. The despot succeeded in reclaiming control of the experimental Starfleet vessel, the Protostar, stranding Dal and his friends on the harsh mining planet of Tars Lamora and his disabled starship, the Red 12. However, Dal and Gwyn still have some tricks up their sleeves, even with Gwyn held hostage on board the Protostar as their gelatinous friend Murf is revealed to be hiding the Proto Core, preventing the Protostar from powering its Proto Drive.

Frustrated that the Protostar’s Proto Core has been removed, the Diviner has Gwyn imprisoned and plots a course to return to Tars Lamora. And as Dal and his friends load the miners on to the Red 12, they are shocked to discover that the Diviner has reactivated his security robots and ordered them to attack the interlopers. While Jankom Pog holds the robots at bay, Rok redirects the Red 12’s power, restoring Tars Lamora’s life support systems and artificial gravity. This victory is quickly undercut by the sudden return of the Protostar, as Drednok personally attacks Rok and Jankom while searching for the Proto Core.

With the repowered Red 12 and short-range communicators serving as universal translators, the miners are able to band together and overpower Drednok, saving Rok and Jankom and seemingly destroying the robotic menace for good. Celebrations are cut short once again when the crew learns that Drednok managed to transport the Proto Core out of Murf back to the Diviner on board the Protostar. With the miners manning the Red 12’s systems, Dal launches the starship off of Tars Lamora and in hot pursuit of the Protostar.

On the Protostar, the Diviner is shocked to learn that Gwyn secretly upgraded Hologram Janeway so she could not be reprogrammed by him, with Janeway leaving the Diviner at her mercy. Realizing he is defeated, the Diviner claims to be a time traveler from the future, sent back to ensure his species’ survival. In a holodeck program, the Diviner reveals that first contact with Starfleet inspired a civil war on his home world that devastated it. The Diviner intends to use a device he implanted on the Protostar to corrupt Starfleet systems and turn its armada against itself and ensure this first contact never occurs.

The False Diviner from Star Trek Prodigy

The Red 12 manages to disable the Protostar’s shields long enough for Dal and Zero to beam over to the vessel and confront the Diviner on the holodeck. Unveiling their true Medusan form, Zero causes the Diviner to lose his mind witnessing the reveal and is left behind on Tars Lamora, last seen obsessively drawing a strange pattern in the dirt. Gwyn catches a glimpse of Zero’s true form from a reflection on Dal’s Starfleet badge, causing her to grow catatonic for a time before recovering, albeit with no memory of the device the Diviner implanted on the Protostar. Unaware of the danger they pose, Dal orders the Protostar to make contact with Starfleet while Admiral Kathryn Janeway detects the starship’s energy signature and prepares to track it down, determined to learn what happened to her old friend Captain Chakotay.

Created by Kevin and Dan Hageman, Star Trek: Prodigy is available to stream on Paramount+. The series will return later to continue Season 1 in 2022.
