Breath of the Wild 2 Still Scheduled for 2022, Nintendo Reassures Fans

A recently published financial report confirms that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is still on track to release at some point in 2022.

Disclosed during a recent investor’s presentation, Nintendo revealed a slide laying out its release schedule for the year. Eagled-eyed fans quickly confirmed that “The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is still set to launch before the end of 2022. Another interesting piece of information is that the game has yet to be formally titled, as the listed name is specified as being temporary in Nintendo’s document. The company has yet to provide an official sub-title, resulting in most fans simply referring to it as Breath of the Wild 2.

Alongside the highly anticipated open-world game, the presentation includes several other release windows for highly-anticipated titles including Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3 and Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp. All of the aforementioned titles are still scheduled to release in 2o22, meaning that Nintendo doesn’t yet have plans to delay any of its upcoming games. Metroid Prime 4, a project that has been in active development for several years, is still listed as “TBA,” meaning fans shouldn’t get their hopes up for a 2022 release.

While Nintendo’s 2022 line-up is packed with exciting games, none has garnered as much attention as Breath of the Wild 2. Revealed during E3 2019, little is known about the game beyond the details unveiled in the recent gameplay trailer. Based on the revealed footage, Breath of the Wild 2 seems to place a greater emphasis on verticality as Link is depicting both falling through the clouds and phasing through what could be an airborne temple. Gamers can also look forward to new abilities and mechanics that should encourage experimentation and exploration of what will likely be a gigantic open-world map.

While fans are no doubt looking forward to Breath of the Wild 2, Nintendo got off to a strong start in 2022 following the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The game, which has often been likened to Breath of the Wild due to its art style and open-world reinvention of the franchise, has both sold and reviewed remarkably well.

While Breath of the Wils 2 doesn’t yet have a specific release date, we know that the game will launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
