The Book of Boba Fett Star Thinks Windu Is Alive | CBR

Ever since Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars fans have debated whether Palpatine intentionally lost his fight with Mace Windu. There may never be a definitive conclusion to the debate, but that wasn’t the biggest mystery that came out of their intense duel. For all intents and purposes, Windu was dead after he fell from the Senate office. Yet a multitude of Star Wars fans have convinced themselves that Master Windu survived.

What is certain is that when Windu fell, he fell out of Star Wars content. There have been additional prequel Master Windu stories, but there hasn’t been anything that has even remotely hinted that he survived his confrontation with Palpatine. However, that hasn’t stopped viewers from running with the possibility that he’s alive by postulating all kinds of theories about what Master Windu has been doing since his fall and disappearance. Now the “Windu is alive” theorizers have their latest convert — The Book of Boba Fett star Temuera Morrison.

Mace Windu In Star Wars

Morrison played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones, but more recently, he’s taken over the mantle as Boba Fett in The Book of Boba Fett. The actor and co-star Ming-Na Wen discussed how their characters would handle hypothetical Star Wars foes in an interview with IMDb On the Scene. The duo knew that Vader and Yoda would be notable adversaries, but Morrison changed his tone when Master Windu’s name came up.

His immediate response was, “I owe him big time for my dad.” The star was referring to how Windu killed Jango Fett during the first Battle of Geonosis. To make matters worse, Boba saw the whole thing happen, so he tried to kill Windu during The Clone Wars. Ultimately, he failed, and as flashbacks in The Book of Boba Fett have shown, Boba hasn’t gotten over the memory of a purple lightsaber decapitating his father.

Boba Fett has exacted revenge on a number of people and the sarlacc during the series, and had other satisfying kills along the way, but Morrison was clear that Windu was still at the “top of the list.” In fact, Morrison mentioned his idea that The Book of Boba Fett should have a Season 2 where Boba Fett hunts down Master Windu to avenge his father’s death. That would, of course, necessitate that Windu survived after all. In other words, Morrison wants Windu to be alive just so that he can kill him for good.

If the powers that be have any plans of returning Master Windu to the Star Wars fold, it needs to be done with some tact. If Windu stayed hidden throughout the original trilogy for some reason, his return has to mean something emotionally; it can’t just be a way to prove that Jedi can fall great distances without dying. Morrison’s idea, however, would be a great way of reintroducing Windu’s character because it would make a newly-redeemed Boba Fett question himself. That would set up a brilliant, bitter and revenge-filled hunt that would be an emotional roller coaster for Boba, whether he ended up killing Windu or not.

Having Boba hunt after Master Windu would also be a way to hearken back to George Lucas’ original plan to have Boba kill Windu in Revenge of the Sith. It may not be practical to have Boba kill Windu — especially after Windu would no longer be restricted by the Jedi Order — but it would be a great storyline nonetheless. A plotline that ties back into original Star Wars canon might also help The Book of Boba Fett connect better with audiences, who have been underwhelmed by the series so far.
