The Witcher: Four Unexplored Lands the Next Game Must Visit | CBR

The world of The Witcher is vast, but so far, across all forms of media, we’ve only really seen the Continent, and even then, mainly the Northern Kingdoms. There’s far more world out there that has been spoken of, and its peoples have been encountered. With talk of a fourth Witcher game in being the works, it would be great to see and explore some new part of the world and discover whether they have their own Witchers or a similar order. Most of these places aren’t small areas either, but countries of their own with completely different climates.

Additionally, it is known from the lore about the Conjunction of Spheres that monsters exist pretty much across the entire world. On the Netflix series, portals were opened that dumped new species out from other realms. This means there is a call for Witchers most everywhere to eliminate or at least study local monsters. Seeing these places and what new species await therein would make for great new adventures. Here are just some of the major destinations that would be a perfect setting for a new Witcher game.

Zerrikania

Zerrikanian Warrior from the Witcher

This realm is mostly known from the short story, The Bounds of Reason, which is about the golden dragon Villentretenmerth (A.K.A Borch Three Jackdaws) and his two Zerrikanian warriors, Téa and Véa. These three characters made an appearance in The Witcher Season 2. There are some mild mentions in the games about the region as well. Zerrikania is located far away to the east and just north of a desert, in a tropical area. It has its own wildlife, like large cats, camels and zebras, at least according to word of mouth from characters who have visited the land.

Unlike the Northern Realms, Zerrikania is matriarchal, being ruled by a queen, and is known for its female warriors. There is also talk of them worshipping dragons. It’s completely different from the Northern Realms and even Nilfgaard, which would mean a totally new setting to explore — and even the possibility of female Witchers in a new game.

Nilfgaard

Nilfgaardian Emperor Emyr

While players have generally gotten a feel for what Nilfgaard high society is like, it’s not a place ever really travelled to or explored much because Geralt is of the Northern Realms. A lot of what players and fans know about the region is biased, secondhand information stemming from rumors spread by those who hate Nilfgaard or nobles who live in a different sphere from the majority.

Still, Nilfgaard has a rich history regarding how it came to be so powerful, and those who paid attention to details in The Witcher 3 will know it’s actually more advanced than the Northern Kingdoms in terms of science and technology. It would be interesting to see what the real Nilfgaard is like, just how vast its empire is and how the other side lives. They tend to believe monsters are more mythical as well, which would make for an interesting dynamic with Witchers, who would be outsiders in a different way.

Kovir & Poviss

Kovir & Poviss north of the Northern Kingdoms

Kovir and Poviss aren’t mentioned much in the games, but they do appear in the novels and will likely be part of a later season of the Netflix series, as there is a major storyline involving its rulers. This kingdom is located in the far north and is generally friendly with the Northern Kingdoms south of it, although Radovid did try to make it part of Redania at one point. He failed miserably and ended up signing a treaty.

Kovir & Poviss are fairly rich, having lands will all types of precious metals and salt. While similar to the Northern Kingdoms, its society seems a bit laxer in the novels, and with all the mines around, there’s sure to be a plethora of monsters lurking in them. It’s also near the sea and has many deltas which likely means the existence of things like Zeugles and Sirens. This a great spot for witchering, as there is wealth and monsters.

Ofir, Across the Sea

Some of Ofieri from the Witcher

Finally, there’s Ofir, a place is mentioned even less than Zerrikania as its much, much farther away. The biggest peek given so far is through the Ofieri Trader and Runewright encountered in The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone. Ofir is located in what’s known as the Far South and is actually across a sea or two, possibly on a different continent. It’s said to have animals like striped horses, camels and elephants, and has a very different society than the Northern Realms.

Ofir’s people seem to seek enlightenment, as they have not only mages and philosophers, but mathematicians, medics and explorers as well. They’ve also run into issues with Skelligens since they typically trade by sea. As this is a mostly unknown land, there is a ton of room to create a whole new world to explore and maybe even entirely new monsters. There might even be different types of monster slayers.
