The final trailer for Uncharted offers audiences glimpses at the upcoming film’s epic and impossible action sequences, worthy of the popular video game franchise.
In a scene that rivals some of the most out-of-this-world sequences in the video games, the final Uncharted trailer includes a moment in which Nate seemingly flies a pirate ship through the air. The clip also teases the fun banter between Nate and Sully, a mystery involving treasure and Nate’s long-lost brother, as well as familiar faces like Chloe Frazer.
While the film draws from Uncharted: Drake’s Deception and Uncharted: A Thief’s End, the two last instalments in the video game series, the upcoming film will reportedly explore a much younger Drake, as well as the early days of his partnership with Victor Sullivan.
The official synopsis for the film reveals Nate and Sully will be after Ferdinand Magellan’s fortune, which was lost 500 years ago by the House of Moncada. Their search will become a race against Santiago Moncada, played by Antonio Banderas, who believes the treasure belongs to him and his family. Somewhere in that search, Nate will also have the chance to find his brother, who in A Thief’s End is introduced as his older brother Sam Drake.
Sony’s Uncharted film has been in the works for several years, facing a number of challenges, including a prolonged search for a director. Holland recently discussed the issue, calling it a stressful experience and touching on some of the major changes that each director brought to the table. “Some of [the directors] came in, and had ideas that we didn’t like, that just didn’t fit the characters, and we had to move on to other people… We took inspiration from everyone. There were very different variations of [Nathan] Drake, and very different variations of [Victor “Sully” Sullivan]. Some people preferred to make the game, some people wanted to make it completely different to the game.”
A scene from Uncharted was previously released, teasing some of the homages the upcoming film contains, including a close remake of Drake’s Deception‘s cargo plane sequence. The recent trailer also included scenery and sequences that gamers may recognize from some of A Thief’s End‘s most memorable moments– flying pirate ship not included.
Uncharted is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 18.
