10 Weakest Dystopian Movie Heroes, Ranked | CBR

Dystopian films depict a society that’s greatly unappealing to the viewer. They usually take place somewhere in the future and work on the premise that the grim dystopia could feasibly exist someday.

Although not necessarily apocalyptic, these societies come with their own struggles, even when they appear to be perfect at first. However, these struggles have created some of the strongest heroes, such as Katniss from The Hunger Games or Thomas from The Maze Runner. Sadly, many of these films have heroes that aren’t that strong, yet somehow manage to do something heroic. Even so, in a dystopia, just getting by is already an impressive feat.

10 Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox – Lois Lane Had To Be Saved From The Amazons

Lois surrenders to the amazons

During a war between Aquaman and Wonder Woman’s armies, humans are caught between the opposing sides. Lois Lane gathered information on both sides, working as a spy. In her appearance, she was able to evade Amazon arrows, despite their extensive training. This shows that she’s more agile and physically fit than most. Lois was eventually cornered but was saved by Professor Zoom. Considering the risks that came with her job, it was incredibly impressive that she survived for as long as she did. However, she was still a human in a world filled with super-powered beings, which made her one of the weaker characters.

9 Ready Player One – Wade Watts Is More Impressive When He’s Inside Of The Game

Wade was so immersed in the game that he got himself a suit that allowed him to feel the things that happened to him. He took a few hard punches from Nolan Sorrento within the game, but he got right back up. He can also perform a lot of the complicated fighting moves, showing that he had practiced and performed those moves in real life. However, he is still an ordinary person in reality.

8 Idiocracy – Joe Bauers Is Incredibly Average

Joe flips off his audience

Joe is described as being perfectly average in every way, which was why he was selected to participate in the Human Hibernation Project. The project is soon forgotten, as well as Joe himself, which led to him waking up 500 years in the future. The people in this dystopian future have become incredibly dim, making Joe the smartest man on the planet. Joe isn’t able to muscle himself out of tight situations and has to rely on his average intellect to think his way out of his problems. Thankfully, this is enough to help him solve the crop problem.

7 The Running Man – Harold Weiss Is A Genius But Isn’t Able To Defend Himself

Harold about to enter the Running Man game

As he hacked into the Network’s control box to steal the broadcast code, which was crucial in exposing the corrupt nature of the game show, he was electrocuted by Dynamo. Although Harold didn’t show off much physical prowess during the show, he had to do the same hard, manual labor in prison that all the other prisoners had to do.

6 The Hunger Games – Primrose Everdeen Was Very Young And Wanted To Be A Doctor Instead Of A Fighter

Primrose in a white room

Primrose was a young individual who’d barely entered her teens by the final Hunger Games movie. She’s Katniss’ younger sister and doesn’t have the same physical strength. However, the struggles they went through made Primrose mature faster, and she aspired to become a doctor. She worked as a medic, which can be physically taxing, especially on a battlefield. Unfortunately, she was sent to her death by Alma Coin in an attempt to bring Katniss to Coin’s side. This had the opposite effect once Katniss learned the truth.

5 Star Wars – The Ewoks Are Small But Many Of Them Can Be Deadly

Ewok holds a stick

The Ewoks are a primitive species that participated in the Battle of Endor. As a group, they were able to do significant damage to the Empire’s army, even though they didn’t have the technological advantage. They were armed with spears, knives, and slingshots. They can make simple yet effective traps as well, which is particularly useful against enemies who underestimate them. They are much like humans, creating tools to defend themselves. Alone and without their tools, Ewoks are significantly weaker – to the point they’d be less than likely to win a fight against a larger creature.

4 The Fifth Element – Rudy Rhod Wants Nothing To Do With Danger

Rudy yells into his mic

Rudy Rhod is an over-the-top radio host who lives to be an entertainer. When encountering danger, he’s quick to panic and screams dramatically. He does do what Korben Dallas tells him to, and because of this, he was able to survive the events of the film. He doesn’t have any strength to speak of in the film, but he does have the personality of someone in charge, often quick to give orders. His personality doesn’t change much at the end of the film. He’s eager to call it a day since he felt that he encountered enough danger to last a lifetime.

3 Demolition Man – The Officers Had No Idea How To Deal With Crime

Officer confronts Phoenix

When a group of officers tried to arrest Phoenix, one had to ask a machine to give him advice on how to deal with the criminal. He didn’t even know how to respond to a scornful remark, which led to him asking for more advice. When Phoenix started to fight and defeat the officers, Officer Erwin exclaimed that they were just police officers and weren’t trained to handle that kind of violence. Their society was so peaceful that they couldn’t foresee ever needing to deal with someone like Phoenix. However, their society was later revealed to be imperfect, as not only was it extreme, but it wasn’t accepting of people who didn’t want to conform by strict and ridiculous rules that kept them from eating spicy foods.

2 I, Robot – Alfred Lanning Was Powerless To Stop VIKI

Lanning's pre-recorded message

Dr. Alfred Lanning is the co-founder of the USR, and Detective Spooner spends most of the movie trying to discern how he died. Alfred is undoubtedly a clever hero, as he sent a request for Spooner to inspect his case, given his hatred for robots. His clues are vital in helping Spooner discover VIKI’s plan to rob all humans of their rights in order to protect them. Lanning himself could do nothing since VIKI was keeping a close watch on him. All he could do was arrange his death and leave clues. Society briefly becomes dystopian during the climax of the film, but Spooner was able to permanently shut down VIKI.

1 WALL-E – Captain B. McCrea Was Praised For Standing

Captain B. McCrea And AUTO In WALL-E

In the future, the Axiom caters to every need a human could ever have. Thanks to this, humans no longer walk or do anything on their own. This led to the deterioration of human bone structure, making them dangerously unhealthy. During his fight against AUTO, McCrea is able to stand on his feet, much to the shock of others. This alone proves that he isn’t particularly strong, although he does an impressive job of wrestling with AUTO. He and the ship’s other inhabitants walk similarly to infants, signifying that they might have been the first steps they’ve ever taken in their lives.
