One Piece is full of comedic, emotional, and action-filled moments. It also hosts some of the luckiest characters ever seen in anime. Whether they dodge impending death or somehow come out victorious during an impossible fight, One Piece characters always seem to have luck on their side.
If luck didn’t play a part, many of these moments could have changed One Piece as a whole and led to very different outcomes for the characters. Other moments made for brilliant character development that added more to the story. Whatever the reason, some moments have become the most memorable ones of the series.
10 Luffy Survives Magellen’s Venom
Despite Bon Clay’s pleas, Luffy goes ahead with his fight against Magellen. With his venom abilities, Magellen is legitimately untouchable, yet the only way to cause damage is with a direct hit. Luffy risks this but to no avail, as Magellen recovers quickly. Soon enough, Luffy is left immobile due to the amount of poison that he’s absorbed, and is surely about to succumb to the venom’s toxins. Luckily, Luffy finds himself in the care of Ivankov, who is able to perform a treatment for the poison, which only has a 2-3% survival rate. In spite of this slim chance of success, Luffy survives and gains immunity to most poisons, which comes in handy throughout the rest of the series.
9 Luffy’s Fight Against Enel
Enel had insane power, the people of Skypeia considered him a literal God. With his immense lightning-based Devil Fruit, Enel defeated half the Straw Hats with ease, until he met Luffy. With half his crew badly injured, Luffy was fueled by anger and didn’t hold back against Enel.
As Nami pointed out, with Luffy’s Gomu-Gomu no Mi, he was resistant to Enel’s lightning, no matter how powerful the voltage was. Rubber and lightning naturally retract one another, and Enel was out of his depth. Luffy finished him off no problem and was the only person to walk away from a fight against him unharmed.
8 A Stray Bolt Of Lightning Saves Luffy From Execution
While in Loguetown, Luffy meets Buggy once again, who decides to get revenge on him by issuing his execution. On that day a thunderstorm was approaching. As if it was on schedule, a bolt of lightning hit the execution platform just as Buggy prepared to strike Luffy. This leaves everyone stunned and whether it was an act of God, a natural oddity, or simply good timing, even Luffy says that luck must have been on his side that day.
7 Reiju Saves Luffy’s Life
Luffy miraculously survives another poison attack thanks to someone with the ability to reverse the effects being nearby. He was saved by Sanji’s sister, Reiju. The Straw Hats catch a giant fish, however with the absence of their cook, they have no knowledge of if the fish is safe to eat. Chopper finds Sanji’s cooking notes, but before he can warn Luffy of the fish’s poisonous skin, Luffy takes a bite. Just then a Germa ship sails past, one that just so happens to have Poison Pink onboard. Luffy was literally minutes away from death. If Reiju wasn’t there to extract the poison from his body it could’ve been the end for him.
6 Usopp Awakens His Observation Haki To Save Luffy And Law
Despite Usopp’s low track record for fighting, he still has a dream to become a brave warrior of the sea. This moment is a great example of Ussop gaining the courage needed to become a warrior. Sugar is moments away from tricking Luffy and Law so Usopp has to act quickly. Unfortunately, he can’t handle the pressure of a hoard of people coming after him, plus the possibility of missing, and risking Luffy’s life.
The timing couldn’t have been better, as his Observation Haki awakens and he can suddenly see Sugar, Law, and Luffy’s presence perfectly. This gives him the precise pinpoint that he needed. He accurately predicted every aspect of his plan and it was executed flawlessly. He proved he has amazing skills as a sniper, even without Haki.
5 Going Merry Saves The Straw Hats
After rescuing Robin from Enies Lobby, the Straw Hats found themselves surrounded by marines. Once their escape ship was destroyed, there was no way out. At that moment Usopp heard a familiar voice telling them to jump into the water, and with no other option, they all agree to do what this mysterious voice said. It turns out that it was Merry who had somehow managed to sail to their rescue and save them all just in time.
4 Usopp Beats Sugar And Becomes A God
Sugar has a terrifyingly powerful ability that she’s mastered. When Usopp scared her by chance, she passed out. He unknowingly saved half of Dressrosa from a lifetime of living as toys. This fateful act was so impactful that Usopp was considered a God by all the people he. Usopp’s saint-like status was only the result of a caved-in ceiling that emitted a holy light over him as he’s lifted by a giant. What makes this lucky moment one of the best, is it was completely unplanned and was the result of being at the right place at the right time.
3 Luffy Saves Law During His Fight Against Doflamingo
Law finally has Doflamingo in his grasp and manages to severely injure him. Powered by ending what Cora-san couldn’t, Law gives it his all in hopes of defeating Doffy for good. Sadly, the injuries he received eventually take their toll on him. He’s left immobilized and is moments away from Doflamingo finishing him off with one final blow. Thankfully, Luffy steps in at the last minute and challenges Doffy with a one-on-one Haki battle. It’s easy to assume that if Luffy wasn’t there during this fight, Law would not have come out of it alive.
2 Luffy Awakens His Conqueror’s Haki At Marineford
Luffy’s entire involvement at Marineford was a stroke of luck, but this moment couldn’t have happened at a better time. As the war continues, Ace’s execution is ready to be carried out. Luffy still has a long way to go to reach Ace in time, with a hoard of marines in his path.
Luffy is desperate at this point and in his moment of desperation, he awakens his Conqueror’s Haki without realizing it. This reveal doesn’t change a lot about the final outcome of Marineford but this was a moment that unexpectedly came to Luffy’s aid when he truly needed it most.
1 The Straw Hats Survive Their Fight Against Bartholomew Kuma
After facing Oars and Gecko Moria, the Straw Hats were exhausted and at their limit, then Bartholomew Kuma arrives. Kuma not only has phenomenal fighting skills, he’s also smart, and calculated. He’s highly knowledgable of the sea, a Warlord, and former member of the Revolutionary Army. The fact that the Straw Hats managed to survive facing him on two separate occasions is a miracle. Zoro’s consciousness after facing him was a miracle of its own. It’s also worth mentioning how lucky the crew was that Kuma happened to send each of them to places where they could strengthen their abilities best during the two-year time skip.
