How Ozark Sets Up Season 4, Part 2 | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Ozark Season 4: Part 1, now streaming on Netflix.

Netflix’s final season of Ozark had massive statements, reminding fans the laundering world of Marty (Jason Bateman) and the Byrdes was as dangerous as ever. Part 1 concluded with his family in a tenuous alliance with the FBI and new cartel boss, Javi, as well as Ruth wanting revenge for key casualties in her life. As such, let’s detail what Part 2 could look like to end the intense, drug-dealing drama.

Ruth Will Be Seeking Revenge at the End of Ozark

Ozark Season 4 killed off Ruth and Kerry's driver

After the Langmore men died trying to encroach on the Byrdes’ empire in the Ozarks, Ruth’s breaking point came in Season 3 when Wendy had her own brother and Ruth’s lover, Ben, killed to maintain silence. Sadly, Season 4 crushed Ruth even more as her cousin, Wyatt, and his old lover, Darlene, were shot dead by Javi to send a message and cripple their heroin rivalry.

Ruth rushed off with a shotgun seeking revenge, and the final seven episodes could see her aligning with her last cousin, Three, to avenge Wyatt. This time, Ruth might have surprise help in the Kansas City Mob. Despite bad dealings with Darlene and her killing Frank Cosgrove Sr., Frank Jr. has made amends with Ruth. He could aid her in running the cartel out of town to keep the money-making local. Ultimately, without Darlene, their revenue stream took a hit and Javi’s not guaranteed to hire the mob, so a new coalition makes sense.

Javi’s Twisted Game Could Implode The Cartel in Ozark

Marty will have to figure out how to get rid of Javi after these deaths as it’s clear Javi may follow through on wanting to kill the Byrdes. He’s made his disdain for Marty and Wendy clear, but he could run into trouble as an FBI informant who shouldn’t be killing Americans. It could endanger all Omar Navarro worked for, and seeing as Javi murdered Sheriff Nix too, he’s a wildcard they might not be able to control, wasting all their federal deals.

Javi could turn on Omar if he finds out Omar ratted them out to gain extradition back home, so whether it’s using moles in the cartel, working with the feds to betray Javi or even manipulating the remnants of their rivals, the Lagunas cartel, Omar might have to kill his nephew. This would help Omar gain better standing with the FBI so he and his kids can move freely in between both countries. Omar will also need to mend fences with Wendy and Marty, reforming their alliance and using his hitman, Nelson, to quell the monster they made.

Marty & Wendy Need To Save Their Family in Ozark

Marty and Wendy ran afoul of Omar Navarro in Ozark

Jonah’s already turned on his parents by selling Javi out to Ruth as he’s pissed how Uncle Ben had to die for their empire. He formed a bond by working with Darlene and Wyatt too, so Marty and Wendy will have to figure out how to win their boy back, and get baby Zeke safely within their camp from child services.

Charlotte might not be falling in line anymore either, as she was close to Wyatt. This will push Marty to work magic to play the feds and all the cartel heads against each other if his loved ones are to escape charges for his money-washing racket and all the lives lost. What’s intriguing is Season 4 opened up with the family in a car accident in a flash-forward that insinuated they gained immunity, so it remains to be seen if this is their fate or someone’s dream.

Agent Miller Will Aim To Destroy Everyone in Ozark

Agent Maya Miller betrayed Marty in Ozark

Maya Miller turned on the FBI as the agent disobeyed orders and had Omar arrested. She realized her superiors were only interested in using the cartel to make money and gain PR for raids rather than shutting down the drug trade. If she works with another unit, it’s easy to see the disgraced Agent Evans working with her to bring everyone down. He’s still bitter over the death of his ex, Agent Petty, down in the Ozarks, after all.

Maya may even betray Marty again as he attempts to manipulate the cartel, as she would have many candidates as potential informants. Ruth and Frank Jr. could come in for protection, while an investigator in Mel could trade secrets, all to create a civil war in the FBI. Erin is a candidate as her mom, Helen, was killed off as Omar’s lawyer; while Rachel from the inn Marty laundered at can be used. Wendy’s dad hated how she lied about Ben being a junkie to hide his death, so he and even Jonah might sell her, her business partners and the Navarros out. At this point, Maya could possibly convince Marty to flip and end Wendy’s political aspirations, as long as the kids go free.
