Katherine “Kate” Kane is Batwoman, and she is the more brutal and militaristic guardian of Gotham City. She is the cousin of Bruce Wayne and the daughter of Colonel Jacob Kane. Jacob’s strict parenting, as well as the tragedies suffered by Kate in her youth, set her on the path of becoming Batwoman.
Batwoman is one of Gotham’s most fearsome defenders and is something of an outsider in the Batman Family despite leading the Gotham Knights superteam for a time. She is a skilled and creative fighter, but there are still many opponents in and out of the Bat-Family that she has yet to conquer.
10 Batwoman And Harley Quinn Worked Together In The Injustice Comics
Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Five #6 by Brian Buccellato and Bruno Redondo found Batwoman and Harley Quinn as erstwhile allies in the hunt for Catwoman. This led them afoul of Superman, Wonder Woman, Bane, and Killer Frost. Surprisingly, both Batwoman and Harley survived this particular experience.
While Batwoman and Harley Quinn have met in the mainstream DC Universe continuity thanks to the Birds of Prey, they haven’t had a showdown yet. Batwoman is a very talented fighter, but Harley Quinn is a wild card. It’s hard to say who would win this particular fight.
9 Kate Kane Hasn’t Been A Target Of Deathstroke The Terminator
Luckily for Batwoman, she hasn’t fought Deathstroke the Terminator yet either. Slade Wilson is the world’s deadliest assassin and has even fought Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman to a standstill on different occasions. Heck, he’s even taken on an entire Justice League team before.
Unfortunately for Batwoman, this seems like a fight she would be destined to lose. Deathstroke is a brutal and efficient fighter, and he knows how to improvise when he needs to. It seems unlikely that Kate Kane would win this one.
8 Batwoman And Two-Face Have Cooperated But Never Fought
DC’s Convergence event brought a lot of previously abandoned stories from the DC Universe back to the fore. Among them was a Question two-parter by Greg Rucka and Cully Hamner starring the Question (Renee Montoya), the Huntress, Batwoman, and Two-Face. This was set during Harvey Dent’s complex redemption arc, and this foursome was trying to deal with an invasion from the Flashpoint Earth’s Harvey Dent.
In the end, the encounter between the Dents was more down to Harvey trying to struggle with his myriad internal demons. The Question gets shot in the exchange, and the other Dent gets sucked back into his world. Batwoman doesn’t get to fight Dent this time, but it seems like a fight she would be capable of winning.
7 Batwoman And The Riddler Have Yet To Cross Paths
It’s a bit surprising that the Riddler has yet to interfere with the life of Batwoman, but the Riddler has always been an enigma. The Riddler is one of the most famous, and infamous, foes of Batman, but his attentions have been known to shift towards other heroes such as Green Arrow and the Flash before.
Someone else wearing a bat logo seems like an obvious target for Riddler, but he has seemingly refrained from telling riddles to Kate Kane. If it were to come down to a direct fight, Batwoman would easily prove the Riddler’s better.
6 Black Mask Managed To Best Batwoman Down In Atlanta
Batwoman and Black Mask encountered one another in the Year of the Villain: Black Mask one-shot by Tom Taylor and Cully Hamner. In the story, Black Mask stages the robbery of an armored truck in Atlanta. Both Batwoman and Renee Montoya attempt to put a stop to Sionis.
Unfortunately, Black Mask uses the threat of killing the responding officers as a cover to get away from both women. Batwoman wasn’t able to catch up with Sionis after this encounter, but it seems like a brawl that Batwoman could easily win.
5 Batwoman And Red Hood Had A Duel That Was Interrupted
Batwoman was leading the Gotham Knights team (consisting of Red Robin, Azrael, Batwing, Spoiler, Orphan, Clayface, and herself) when they ran across the Red Hood and his Outlaws: Bizarro and Artemis. The Knights’ skill and overwhelming numbers managed to pacify the Outlaws, with Batwing scoring the winning attack on Red Hood.
Sometime after this, both the Gotham Knights and the Outlaws split up, and Batwoman encountered Red Hood alone on the road. The two fought to a standstill until a massive goon with superstrength interrupted the melee. Kate and Jason had to team up to bring down this metahuman, and neither felt like continuing the fight afterward. The two actually amended their past animosity and went their separate ways.
4 Batwoman May Have Teamed Up With Supergirl, But She’s Never Fought A Kryptonian
The World’s Finest: Batwoman and Supergirl Special by Margaret Stohl and Laura Braga brought Kate Kane and Kara Zor-El together in a fight against the Religion of Crime. The two got along well enough despite some initial confusion and went their separate ways after the team-up.
Unlike her cousin, Batwoman hasn’t had to try to take down a Kryptonian yet. The closest thing was the Bizarro that was on the Outlaws team. Given enough Kryptonite and gadgets, it is feasible that Batwoman could take down Superman or Supergirl, but even Batman has yet to decisively win that one.
3 Batwoman And Red Robin Never Resolved Things After The Death Of Clayface
The end of the aforementioned Gotham Knights team came about when Clayface was driven mad and sent on a rampage, and Batwoman opted to kill Clayface with a specialized weapon. This splintered the team, with none of the other members approving of what Batwoman did, least of all Orphan, who befriended Clayface, and Red Robin.
The two haven’t encountered one another again in the time since, and the two have yet to settle their differences. While Batwoman is a more brutal and skilled fighter, Tim Drake is the smartest partner that Batman has ever had outside of Barbara Gordon. It’s hard to say who would win this bout.
2 Nightwing And Batwoman Were At Odds In Nightwing: New Order
In the Nightwing: New Order miniseries by Kyle Higgins and Trevor McCarthy, superpowers have largely been eliminated from the world, and the Crusaders police the remaining metahumans. Dick Grayson is the face of the Crusaders, but Kate Kane runs the organization. When Dick Grayson and Starfire’s son, Jacob, begins exhibiting powers, things get complicated for Nightwing.
This is an alternate future story and not part of the mainline DC continuity. However, there is a fight between Dick Grayson and Kate Kane at the climax of the story. Dick seems to be getting the upper hand before it’s interrupted by Lex Luthor. That said, there’s never been a fight between the two on DC’s Prime Earth.
1 Batwoman And Batman Have Had Some Scraps, But She’s Never Come Out On Top
After the Gotham Knights fell apart, Batwoman and Batman have a “private discussion” over their differences in method and opinion. This leads to a lengthy brawl between the two that comes to a climax when Batwoman uses the recording of the same kind of gun that killed Thomas and Martha Wayne to essentially trigger Batman’s PTSD.
This doesn’t pacify Batman, but it gives the fight enough of a pause that Batman tells Batwoman to get out of his sight instead of continuing the melee. It’s clear that this was Batwoman’s one trump card, and she would have easily lost this fight had it continued.
