For years, The Santa Clause franchise has been a staple of Disney and the Christmas season. The adventures of Tim Allen’s Scott Calvin as he navigates being Santa Claus are often filled with laughs and a collection of colorful characters. But part of what makes the trilogy so entertaining is how they let the relationships between the characters push the story in new directions.
From The Santa Clause to The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, new characters continued to join the roster and quickly earned their place as staples of the franchise. Now, with a new series on the way, sixteen years after the last film, it’s crucial to know exactly where the previous movie left off with each key player.
Scott Calvin

The protagonist of the entire series, Scott Calvin, encounters many ups and downs in his role as Santa Claus. After finally embracing his destiny and taking on the responsibilities that come with the job, he discovers that he has to find a wife and nearly loses his title altogether after Jack Frost alters reality. But no matter the opposition, he always manages to come out on top thanks to the support of his friends and loved ones. Finally, after The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, Scott gets his life back from Jack Frost and can witness the birth of his son, Buddy.
Charlie

Scott’s best friend and most trusted ally is undoubtedly his son, Charlie. In the first film, he encourages to be the next Santa and embraces his duties, reminding him that he will always love him no matter what. In the sequel, Charlie is older and slightly resents that his dad isn’t around much and that he has to keep his secret. However, the two eventually make amends, and their bond is stronger than ever. Finally, in the third film, Charlie appears towards the end to help out with gift manufacturing before Christmas. His role, while smaller, shows enough to display that his relationship with his dad is still going strong.
Laura and Neil
In The Santa Clause, Laura is introduced as Scott’s ex-wife who has since moved on and married Psychiatrist Neil Miller. Neil is a kind-hearted man who is often oblivious to Scott’s blatant sarcasm. Scott and Laura also don’t see eye to eye with Scott about how they raise Charlie, but in the end, the three adults reconcile their differences after Scott reveals he’s Santa. In The Santa Clause 2, Neil and Laura have a daughter, Lucy, who adores Scott and his job as Santa. In the third film. Laura and Neil join Lucy, Scott and the others in seeing the North Pole and let their inner children have as much fun as possible as they explore.
Carol

When Scott has to find a wife in The Santa Clause 2, he stumbles upon Charlie’s principal, Carol Newman. At first, the two don’t get along, but eventually, they begin to see qualities in one another that they fall in love with. By the end of the film, Carol accepts Scott’s role as Santa and agrees to marry him. In the third film, it’s revealed that she is pregnant, and she brings her parents to the North Pole to see where she lives. The last time she is seen is giving birth to her son Buddy, leaving fans with the promise of good things to come in the future.
The Elves

For three films, the elves helped maintain Christmas and aided Scott in his transition into Santa Clause. In the past, Bernard was the Head Elf that reminded him of his duties and kept him on task. Curtis, who was Number 2 Elf at the time, also helped Scott in his day-to-day activities, so when Bernard left his duties in the third film, he became the new Head Elf. Audiences last saw the elves working hard as Christmas night approached and were happier than ever, knowing that Santa had just welcomed a child with Carol.
