Although Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl only released last Friday, one YouTuber/Twitch Streamer caught all of the game’s titular creatures in less than 24 hours.
Streamer SmallAnt posted a video on YouTube documenting how he went about catching all the game’s Pokémon. SmallAnt documented some of how he strategized his run, explaining that he initially selected Chimchar for his starter and then used a friend’s Nintendo Switch to get Piplup and Turtwig. Other problems included getting Drifloon, whose appearance is linked to an internal schedule. As the video makes clear, SmallAnt — who was playing Brilliant Diamond — had to be very precise and careful about how he proceeded to accomplish his goal.
Created by Satoshi Tajiri, Ken Sugimori and Junichi Masuda, Pokémon is a Japanese franchise that began in 1996 with Pocket Monsters Red and Green. The games were not released in North America until 1998, where they were known as Pokémon Red and Blue. In general, the franchise’s gameplay sees players taking on the role of young trainer in one of the world’s various regions and working to catch every Pokémon so as to become a Pokémon Master. Since launching, the Pokémon series has become the highest-grossing media ever, with a ton of different toys, movies and other products based on the property.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are set in the Sinnoh region, which is based on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō. The games are remakes of the fourth generation of Pokémon games. However, they add a ton of new features. Initial reviews for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pearl both hold a 76 on Metacritic. For the sake of comparison, the original versions of the games, which released on the Nintendo DS in 2005, hold an 85.
Announced as part of the 25th anniversary of Pokémon, the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were developed by ICLA. They’ll be followed by Pokémon Legends: Arceus on Jan. 28, 2022. Taking place before the events of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Arceus is set in the Sinnoh region when it was known as Hisui. The game will feature a number of tweaks to the franchise’s successful formula.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch.
