Marvel Officially Welcomes Harry Styles’ Starfox to the MCU | CBR

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Marvel Studios’ Eternals, now in theaters.

Marvel officially introduced singer/actor Harry Styles’ Eros/Starfox to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new Eternals character poster.

“Meet the Royal Prince of Titan, brother of Thanos, the Knave of Hearts, defeater of Black Rogers, the great adventurer, Starfox,” Marvel Studios wrote on Twitter. Styles made his MCU debut in one of the post-credit scenes of Eternals, along with Pip the Troll, who was voiced by comedian Patton Oswalt.

Styles’ addition to the MCU was reported in a high-profile leak prior to Eternals‘ theatrical debut, though it remains unclear exactly what role Eros/Starfox will play in the Marvel films going forward. Created in 1973 by Mike Friedrich and Jim Starlin, the character first appeared in Invincible Iron Man #55 and fought alongside the Avengers once after working against his brother, Thanos.

Styles recently opened up about his brief role in Eternals, saying, “I’m only in right at the very end. But who didn’t grow up wanting to be a superhero, you know? It was a great experience and I’m so grateful to have gotten to work with Chloé [Zhao].”

When casting Styles in the role, director Chloé Zhao said she never considered another actor to take on the role of Thanos’ brother, and had kept an eye on him ever since his performance in 2017’s Dunkirk. “Harry as Eros was very much a package deal for me,” she said in a previous interview. “I pitched the idea of Pip the Troll and Eros to Kevin [Feige] awhile back and I love the idea of exploring an Eternal who is beyond Titan and who may have influenced Thanos throughout the years the same way Eternals influenced us, earthlings.”

She continued, “I thought he was very interesting. After meeting him I realized he is that character — the same way I cast the rest of my cast. There’s so much of Eros in him. For me, if he says yes and Kevin says yes then it’s a go. And I’m very happy they both did.”

Styles wasn’t the only actor to be introduced to the MCU in one of Eternals‘ two post-credit scenes. While he wasn’t visible on screen, the voice of Mahershala Ali as Blade could be heard as Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman reached for Black Knight’s Ebony Blade. However, before Dane can lift it, he hears the voice of Ali’s Blade saying, “Sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?”

For those wishing to witness Styles’ MCU debut for themselves, Eternals is now playing exclusively in theaters.
