Marvel’s Avengers Forever Trailer Promises a Major Multiverse Adventure

Marvel has released a new trailer for the upcoming series Avengers Forever from writer Jason Aaron and Aaron Kuder.

Posted on YouTube, the video serves to highlight Aaron’s past major works for Marvel and look to the future of the upcoming story spinning out of Avengers #750. The trailer shows snippets of Gorr the God Butcher from Thor: God of Thunder and Thor fighting Malekith in The War of the Realms, before shifting its focus to Avengers Forever. Based on the trailer, the series will have a massive scope that stretches across the Multiverse as the title assembles the “All-vengers.”

The trailer first opens with a bloody, one-eyed and badly-scarred being reaching out for Thor’s hammer. It is unclear who exactly this character might be. The scarred appearance bears much similarity to Deadpool in comics, but the nose and missing eye could mean that this is Deathlok, who is also featured in the trailer. What isn’t questionable, however, is that this version of Thor’s hammer does not grant the power of thunder to the wielder, but the flaming vengeance abilities of Ghost Rider.

Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider is displayed heavily in the trailer, as he has been in Aaron’s Avengers run as a newer member of Earth’s mightiest heroes. The solicitation for Avengers Forever #1 states that Ghost Rider will find himself on a ruined Earth where heroes never saved the day. The ally he will find there is also shown in the trailer though: Tony Stark, the Invincible Ant-Man.

A preview for Avengers Forever shows the Iron Man variant shrunken down within the Earth and evading venomized ants chasing him, before reaching for Thor’s hammer. The Venom ants are not the only amalgam of previously-seen characters that will be featured in the book though, based on the trailer. Very similar to the time that Frank Castle AKA the Punisher wore War Machine’s armor, many War Machine-like suits with skulls gracing their masks can be seen in the video. Of course, aside from Punisher, this also could be related to the Marvel villain Crossbones, who has a similar skull motif across his attire.

Avengers #50 lights the fire. Avengers Forever is the explosion that follows,” Jason Aaron said while discussing the series. “A slam bang supernova of a megabomb that sends shockwaves across all of reality, to Earth after Earth that’s been defaced by the new Multiversal Masters of Evil, to the ruins of Asgard at the end of time, to an Avengers Tower that sits atop a bedrock of fallen gods at Infinity’s End. Along the way, we meet some new versions of Avengers we know, as well as witness the return of some dear old friends, in a series that will swing for the fences with each and every issue, as the Mightiest Heroes of all the Earths in the heavens look to assemble as never before.”

Kuder also expressed his excitement at being involved with the series. “Completely stoked to be working on Avengers Forever… In space no one can hear you scream. In alternate realities, no one can tell you ‘that doesn’t fit with continuity,'” he said. “It is a huge blast to work together on this with Jason. The over-the-top nature of this, the craziness of the scope…that is, in my opinion, one of Jason’s strongest storytelling flexes. This is going to be a blast for anyone on this ride.”

Avengers Forever #1 goes on sale from Marvel Comics on December 22.
