It was recently reported that Eternals director Chloé Zhao was attached to a Star Wars project. These reports have been proven to be untrue.
The Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed to its readers in a newsletter that “Chloé Zhao is not directing Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie, or any Star Wars movie.” The newsletter did shine a light on other Disney-related project hopes and production updates, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 starting production and the Eternals writers wanting to make a prequel series for the Disney+ streaming service.

Rumors about Zhao’s involvement with Lucasfilm surfaced following the release of her highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe film Eternals. Back in October, the Oscar-winning filmmaker was asked by Empire Magazine whether she would consider working on a Star Wars entry, to which Zhao said that she would and added, “It’s a world I have so much reverence for because it was such an important part of my life.” At the moment, no official details about Feige’s Star Wars film have been announced.
Fans recently got a look at future Star Wars projects on Disney+ Day in the form of a video previewing the highly-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The clip featured director Deborah Chow and lead actor Ewan McGregor teasing “a dark time” in the titular character’s life, was well as the looming threat of “Jedi Hunters” who, in a piece of concept art, heavily resemble the Imperial Inquisitors. They also discussed the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, with another concept art image showing Obi-Wan and a now-armored Vader exchanging lightsaber blows on a world reminiscent of Mustafar.
The latest Star Wars release will be Disney+’s The Book of Boba Fett, whose official trailer showed Fett and his partner Fennec Shand establishing their new leadership status amongst Tatooine’s criminal underworld. A documentary on Boba Fett’s unique franchise history, titled Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett, also recently debuted on Disney+ for Disney+ Day.
Meanwhile, despite receiving mixed reviews, Eternals established a larger conflict in its final moments, with the remaining Earthbound Eternals getting taken away by their Celestial builder Arishem for stopping the birth of a new Celestial, vowing to cast “judgement” on humanity at some point in the future. According to Eternals writer Kaz Firpo, this cliffhanger could set up a more expansive sequel in the form of “an intergalactic rescue from the World Forge,” allowing for more introductions to the MCU’s wider intergalactic side.
