Notable video game director and executive producer Todd Howard recently joked that even his own family is constantly demanding news on The Elder Scrolls VI.
During a recent Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), Howard was inundated with questions about Bethesda Softwork’s vast catalog of intellectual properties. While many fans sought information on the upcoming Starfield RPG, others went probing for details on the next mainline Elder Scrolls game. Howard didn’t respond to all the questions, but he did joke that even his son has begun teasing him about the sixth Elder Scrolls title.
When asked, “Any updates on TES6?” Howard responded in turn by writing, “We know it’s a long wait, we’re with you. For Father’s Day this year my son gave me a card that said, ‘You’re an amazing Dad, but where’s TES6?'” The comment was appreciated by fans who proceeded to jokingly double down on prying for more information.
Announced in 2018 during the Bethesda Games E3 showcase, next to nothing is known about The Elder Scrolls VI. The reveal trailer is comprised of a panoramic shot of Tamriel accompanied by the franchise’s iconic music. While the game’s title was revealed, its setting remains a mystery as the teaser only served to confirm that the game is currently in development. It is expected to release after Starfield, Bethesda’s first original IP in over twenty years.
Perhaps one of the biggest questions surrounding The Elder Scrolls VI is console exclusivity. Since Microsoft formally wrapped up the acquisition of Bethesda Games in early 2021, many have speculated that the game will only be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC. This is the case with Starfield, which was announced years before the acquisition took place. Speaking to the sci-fi RPG’s exclusivity, Howard said, “…We’re big believers in all of the avenues that Xbox and Microsoft are doing to get games to more people. Whether that’s the integration with the PC, which is huge for us, the cloud streaming and all those things. So I think it’s about taking a long term view. And our belief that those things are really fundamentally good.”
If you’re itching for more Elder Scrolls content, then you’ll need to simply revisit the fifth game in the series, subtitled Skyrim. Bethesda recently celebrated the game’s tenth birthday with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition, a re-release that bundles together the Special Edition with new items, quests and gameplay modes. This version of the game is now available on all modern consoles.
