Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl Will Require 3GB Day One Patch

Nintendo‘s upcoming Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes are set to receive a day-one patch.

As reported by GameSpot, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will receive a day-one patch that will require 3GB of hard drive space. In addition to several bug fixes, the patch will add a few in-game cutscenes and animations. There’s also some additional content contained in the patch, including online communication for Grand Underground, Super Contest Show and Union Room It will also enable players to receive Mystery Gifts and access Ramanas Park after entering the Hall of Fame. The patch is reportedly one of several planned.

Created by Satoshi Tajiri, Ken Sugimori and Junichi Masuda, the Pokémon franchise began in 1996 as Pocket Monsters Red and Green. In 1998, the games released in North America as Pokémon Red and Blue. Gameplay saw players taking on the role of a young trainer in the Kanto region working to catch all of the Pokémon he could to create the best possible team and defeat the Elite Four.

Since that launch, Pokémon has become the highest-grossing media franchise ever, having earned over $100 billion worldwide. The series consists of video games, anime, manga, films and a popular trading card game. The franchise’s first live-action film, Detective Pikachu, released in 2019.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which see players adventuring in the Sinnoh region and contending with the villainous Team Galactic, are remakes of the fourth generation of Game Freak’s series, which released in 2006. The original versions of those games, which released on the Nintendo DS, currently hold an 85 on Metacritic. At the time of writing, there are no reviews available for the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes.

Announced as part of the 25th anniversary of Pokémon, the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were developed by ICLA rather than Game Freak. They’ll be followed by Pokémon Legends: Arceus on Jan. 28, 2022. That game takes place before the events of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, when the Sinnoh region was known as Hisui, and will feature a number of tweaks to the franchise’s successful formula.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are set to release on Nov. 19 on Nintendo Switch.
