WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows Season 3, Episode 10, “The Portrait,” now available on Hulu via FX.
As Season 3 of What We Do in the Shadows concludes, it’s quite bittersweet as the Staten Island coven breaks up in the wake of Colin Robinson’s (Mark Proksch) death on his 100th birthday. They’re left wondering about their purpose, with Nandor (Kayvan Novak) wanting to tour various countries to find himself again. Interestingly, as he makes big moves, Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), grabs at the chance for a new job, but it ends in heartbreaking fashion as she’s given a new partner she can’t stand.
Nadja tries keeping it a secret but her ruthless disposition as co-chair of the domestic Vampiric Council has impressed the superiors on the worldwide council. As such, word is sent via video that she’s been offered a spot with the global group and they want her to move to London.
But the problem is, she has to convince Laszlo to return to England as he’s made it clear he hates his home. Guillermo plays puppet master once more, happy that Laszlo will stay in NYC, as it means Nadja, as his wife, would give up her dream. The more, the merrier, which will help convince Nandor to stay as well.
It turns out, Laszlo got booted from the Sherwood Club of London, but it’s not for his drinking or sex addiction — it’s because they looked down and discriminated against Nadja’s Romani heritage. But Guillermo’s plan is shot to hell when Nadja breaks the news and admits this time, Laszlo would have a lot more power as her partner and they could get revenge on those who insulted them.
The narcissist in him immediately jumps at the offer, but sadly, after boxing Nadia in a coffin at the port, Laszlo doesn’t go in his. Instead, he ambushes and locks “Gizmo” in, leaving a letter that explains he wants Nadja to rule without him and the best vampire bodyguard in the business alongside her. Laszlo, after all, has kept his own secret in that he has to raise a resurrected Colin in baby form. Thus, he doesn’t want to stymie his wife’s paradise of power.
Nadja’s left in her slumber and has no idea of this endearing betrayal, while Guillermo’s angry as he was supposed to meet Nandor for their world trip. Now, fans are eager to see how Nadja will take the job on, flex power and also, share, as she doesn’t play nice with others, whether they’re senior or junior to her.
They’re also curious as to her recommendations to improve the vampire world, what she’ll implement and more so, if she can get along with Guillermo too, as she doesn’t like him much. She thinks he’s beneath her, and one of the most tedious humans around, so that dynamic will be fun to explore. But most of all, folks desperately want to see if the duo will end up forgiving Laszlo for his rash yet well-intentioned actions.
