My Hero Academia: 8 Times Bakugo Just Made Things Worse | CBR

Katsuki Bakugo is infamous for his explosive personality and fiery approach to fighting both his classmates and his foes. His prickly disposition makes him difficult to work with, and his peers have trouble getting close to him. Even Izuku Midoriya, who has known Bakugo for a long time, has a lot of trouble with him.

Since Bakugo is so volatile, his weakness as a hero in training lies mostly in the saving people part. While he has undeniable strength, his emotional intelligence is low, and he has little time for compassion. Because of this, Bakugo runs into a lot of obstacles on his quest to become a Pro Hero.

8 He Couldn’t Focus On The Right Things During The Provisional Exam

Katsuki Bakugo has been accused of wanting to be a hero for the wrong reasons. While he highly respects All Might just like his friend Izuki Midoriya, he seems to pattern after a more ominous hero, Endeavor (Enji Todoroki).

The issue with this is that Bakugo sometimes makes situations that require prioritizing saving others worse. His Explosion Quirk is destructive and dangerous. So is his personality. Innocents are liable to be caught in the crossfire or left in the rubble, not unlike during the Provisional License Exam.

7 He Got Wrapped Up In The League Of Villains

The League of Villains in My Hero Academia

When Bakugo was kidnapped by the League of Villains, his anger issues got the better of him. While it was admirable of Bakugo to stay true to his hero persona and tell them he would never join the villain’s side, he could have been a bit more strategic.

Instead, when he is unrestrained, he attacks Tomura Shigaraki and Twice. This causes the League of Villains to become angry. However, just as they are about to restrain him again, they are distracted by a pizza delivery and subsequently All Might.

It was not Bakugo’s fault the sludge monster took over his body and Quirk. However, his Quirk made it extremely difficult for many of the Pro Heroes to help, thus making the sludge villain situation much worse than before. Furthermore, because it was Bakugo, Midoriya did not hesitate to jump into the fray, putting himself in danger due to his lack of Quirk.

Fortunately for Midoriya, this is the moment he inspires All Might to pass his Quirk onto him. Bakugo, however, got nothing for his troubles.

5 He Antagonized Midoriya As Kids

Bakugo was incredibly mean to Midoriya when they were kids and in middle school. Because he had a Quirk and Midoriya did not, he thought himself superior. For some reason, he was compelled to bully Midoriya and tell him to give up on his dreams of being a hero.

He was jealous of Midoriya’s resolve and kindness. However, his insistence on bullying to make himself feel better was the very reason Bakugo was not able to catch up with Midoriya. He made being a hero harder for himself because of his insecurities and unwillingness to learn from Midoriya’s personality and values.

4 He Continues To Look Down On Others

Bakugo (My Hero Academia)

Bakugo’s attitude was a source of a lot of grief and frustration for class 1-A’s students and fans alike. He was rude, egotistical, and looked down on others. He was not afraid to let others know that, either. So, it was  a wonder that he was able to make friends both in middle school or at UA at all.

His personality did not help his ability to make friends and work on a team. He was constantly disregarding others, making all of these situations worse.

3 He Makes Things Hard For His Teammates

As a Pro Hero, one often has to work with others. There have been countless times Pro Heroes have had to work in a group, and it is standard for Pro Heroes to have sidekicks. Even All Might, the greatest hero, had a sidekick in Sir Nighteye.

However, Bakugo’s volatile attitude makes working with him incredibly difficult. He constantly causes damage with no regard to his surrounding, and he jets off and leaves his team behind as he tries to do everything himself. This is part of the reason he often fails exams.

2 He Went Too Hard On His Classmates During Training

Bakugo was angry when he found out Midoriya had a Quirk. Even though Midoriya was Quirkless for most of his life, Bakugo always felt that he was somehow behind Midoriya, and this caused a lot of insecurity. So, when Midoriya found a Quirk and showed up at UA too, Bakugo was upset.

He took this out on Midoriya during one of their trials. At that moment, it truly seemed like Bakugo was not going to stop until Midoriya was dead or seriously injured, though he has changed a lot since then.

1 He Forces Others To Fight Him When They Don’t Want To

People have reasons why they do not want to fight. Sometimes, they have to stick with their team or complete a different mission. Other times, they want to communicate or find other solutions. This is unacceptable for Bakugo.

Bakugo is constantly instigating fights, and when those he sets his sights on do not want to engage him, he forces them to by attacking. If they still refuse, he gets enraged. A perfect example of this was during his fight with Shoto Todoroki, who he could tell was letting him win.
