The Witcher Season 2 Still Sees Geralt Ready for the Bruxa | CBR

Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2 is only a few weeks away from its long-awaited release. The streaming giant is preparing audiences for it with a steady stream of clips and stills teasing the dramatic and mystical characters and events to come. The latest still from Season 2 showcases Geralt of Rivia readying himself for a fight with a bruxa.

The Empire exclusive still shows Geralt, lacking his witcher armor, armed with a silver sword. His eyes are completely black and his veins have darkened, as they do when the witcher potions are at work. With his sword raised and his ears perked, he readies himself for a battle, likely with the bruxa that briefly appeared in some of the show’s recent trailers and clips.

The still likely comes from Episode 1 of The Witcher Season 2, which will adapt the characters and events of Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story, “A Grain of Truth.” The tale follows Geralt as he encounters a manor hidden deep in the forests of the Northern Kingdoms. There, he finds a cursed beast by the name of Nivellen, accompanied only by a mysterious bruxa named Vereena. The tale culminates in a battle between the vampire and the witcher, though Season 2 of The Witcher will throw Ciri into the mix as well.

Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich previously explained that Season 2 will explore a stretch of time that Sapkowski’s novels skipped over between Sword of Destiny and Blood of Elves. Hissrich explained in an interview back in 2020, “In the books, [after] Geralt and Ciri meet in that moment in Sodden… when we come back in the next book, we’ve actually skipped a lot of time.” She continued, “We found in writing the show that we didn’t actually want to skip over those first months of them getting to know each other.” For Season 2 and its adaptation of “A Grain of Truth,” that means Ciri will accompany the witcher and the entire encounter will likely take place as the two travel from Sodden to Kaer Morhen.

The story is one of many that will help populate The Witcher Season 2 with monsters, since much of the series will adapt Blood of Elves, a book that doesn’t contain nearly as many monsters as its predecessors. Hissrich touched on the issue recently, teasing that Season 2 will introduce a variety of monster encounters that don’t occur in the books.

Season 1 of The Witcher is available for streaming on Netflix. Season 2 will premiere on Dec. 17.
